What about those of us who don't have an "entryway" and their door opens directly into their living room? I need help w/this. :[

These are inspiring. I especially enjoyed #2.

Unfortunately I live in a two family house -- so my entryway is about 2 sq. feet before you walk up a flight of stairs. I am finding it impossible to design an unobtrusive landing strip!

I am loving the Scott Dorrance one with that gorgeous orange-red color.

I'm in the same boat as plumeria, though - my front door opens right into my living room and I can't quite figure out how to create a separate entry area.

Ditto the problem of creating a landing strip for entries right into the living room. Any advice? Secondly, any source info for the red console in the Scott Dorrance design? I really like that.

How nice to have an entryway...I'm one of the unfortunates who has no entryway. My door opens right into my living room. I have yet to come up with a solution for this, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

My entry way is almost done, just waiting for the pendent to arrive. Finding a pendent or ceiling fixture I liked without spending $$$ was a real challenge.

I am not crazy about hanging coats, hats and having stacks or shoes in my hallway. I would love to paint by door that blue or something like that color in the third picture.

Love the entryway with the flag, striped barber pole and striped sisal rug. I'd be all buttered up to see the rest of the home, which would surely be interesting.

If I'd no hall, I think I'd try to do something similar using open bookcases like IKEA Expedit (if they could be secured) to zone the space a little.

Every time you post an article about entryways and landing strips, there is a bevy of requests for inspiration and ideas for front doors that open directly into the living room.

When will you give us advice on this very common problem?

AT did an article several months back about creating a foyer in a foyer-less space. It involved separating off the entryway with a screen or somesuch.
