When we lived in England during college, our favorite store was Habitat. (We still have the catalog from autumn of 1998 that we picked up in a London store!) Gregory from ATLA even posted Habitat's Akiko Pendant Chandelier earlier this week. While we can't shop or think about paying for things in £, the British website is still fun to peruse. Be sure to check out the Habitat website, if you've never been to a store. Started by Terence Conran in 1964, Habitat is now owned by Inka Holdings (the same Swedish company that owns IKEA). Tom Dixon is the "non-executive Creative Director" of the brand.

The exchange rate is pretty simple: 1USD : 2BPS. Unless you meant that you can't fathom how strong the British Pound is relative to the declining-in-value US Dollar, in which case no one, not even the Fed, can solve that problem.
I remember Conran's in Philadelphia when I was in high school/college. I loved that shop so much...but I just visited Conran's Habitat in Marseille and was just plain old disappointed. There were some singularly cool items, but I left underwhelmed.

Umm..it's actually 1GBP=$2, not the other way round. I WISH it were the other way round. Sigh.
