We know from our survey (What Comes After the Crib) that one popular idea for transitioning your child from a crib to a bed is placing a mattress or futon directly on the floor. It gives many parents peace of mind that their child won't be injured from a fall, but what if plunking a mattress on the floor feels unfinished or doesn't jive with your aesthetics?
We spotted this painted faux headboard above linked over at Bloesem and thought it was a great idea to adapt for floor-sleeping kids. While the mattress below (seen on ATSF) isn't directly on the floor, the use of two paint colors to highlight the bed area is another way to go. We also found a few headboard wall graphics on Etsy (search "headboard graphic"), but most were a bit ornate for our tastes. If you know of any we should check out let us know.
Is your kid's mattress or futon on the floor? Have you done anything like this to "jazz" it up?

The top photo is the saddest room I've ever seen - not just on Ohdeedoh, not just on AT, but out of all the rooms I've ever seen in my whole life.
I agree- that top photo is heartbreaking. I hope no children really live there. It looks like a movie set for a room where the big bad kidnappers keep children until their parents pay the ransom.
The bottom room looks nice, but since it is a post about putting a mattress directly on the floor for your child, I am a little confused about this photo of a bed which clearly has some height between the mattress and the floor, and which is most definitely an adult's room.
not exactly a lot going on, but hardly sad - maybe a tad boring, but it is what it is - simple... as for saddest rooms, have you ever seen pretty in pink? remember ducky's room? that's sad.
The post is actually titled Inspiration: Faux Headboard.
