We work with plenty of clients who live in studio spaces where living room, bedroom, and kitchen are one. One approach to make a bed appear more couch-like than bed-like is to place it along a wall and shower the long side of the bed with throw pillows, but let's face it, it still usually looks like a bed. So our heart skipped a beat when we spotted this dreamy, full or queen size custom upholstered daybed in Elle Decor...
Granted, this beauty probably cost a fortune but it inspired us nonetheless. Someday, just maybe, we'll figure out a way to affordably construct something similar. We'd love to hear about other ways that you've integrated your bed in your studio space.

My loft is one room and less than 900sqft. I don't like the bed/sofa/accident waiting to happen above.
I don't know if I'd call that a day bed as much as just an extension of this winged headboard fad. I think it looks pretty cool, but can't imagine it would be very nice to sleep in - like a cage.
I absolutely love it!
lol @ creolesugar
I like it, but I don't see how this would work as a sofa. Daybeds are twin size because they are narrow.
Though this idea is amusing, it is too deep to actually be used as a couch. And isn't that the point of a daybed?
Love it!!!!
I don't think it's cage-like at all. I think it's lovely and would be soooo cozy in the winter.
The problem I've consistently found with daybeds of any size in a studio is that the high sides make the daybed feel like a disjointed space that doesn't flow into the rest of the room. You can put a chair across from it and a coffee table in front of it, but it still doesn't feel like it's truly part of the conversational grouping. For a full daybed, this piece works really well, but it doesn't completely overcome that fundamental challenge. I just don't see how you'd arrange it so it works with the other furniture in a room.
Oh my gosh! Imagine all the things you could pretend if you had that as a little girl. I love it!
Forget the day bed notion, I would love to have this in my bedroom as my bed! LOVE IT!
That's an awesome bed - Very cool!
I have a teak queen daybed currently, and I would probably opt out of it if I had to live in a studio space for the reason lurker2209 noted--it would stand as a centerpiece but wouldn't help create a cohesive space. Additionally, the daybed would require just as many pillows as a non-daybed to be comfortable as a couch.
Hi akb,
I'd love to see a picture of your queen daybed! Do you have it posted anywhere? If not, could you send a picture to kyle@cloud9or.com?
Thanks,
Kyle (the blogger)
Hi, Kyle! I may have an old photo of my bed online somewhere. Let me search :)
the bed is gorgeous, but it's a bit childish.
oh my goodness, that bed!!!
i have a friend that uses a full/queen size (not sure exactly which) daybed as a couch as well. he doesn't have it long/vertical like this, but rather horizontal like most other daybeds. it isn't obscenely long, still feels like a couch, and is a favorite camp-out for party guests. the back (side) of the "couch" has a bunch of large pillows, and he added a headboard onto it as well. the headboard gives you more of a back and makes it more couch-like than it would be without one. it works really well and actually looks good. i'd like to see some more beds like that - beds that pretend to be couches, but aren't sleeper sofas. daybedcouches!
manbearpig?
Oh my god...I love this. But I agree with copelli21, I want it as my bed not in the living room....
awesome.
akb, i'm super serial here, it looks good! (but i, too, am dying to see your teak daybed)
It's not a daybed but it's cozy. I think magazines stretch the truth to fit their vision:-)

I adore it... probably more as a bed than a couch, but still....

I live in a studio apartment and looking for a daybed that actually doubles as a sofa because most daybeds are not too comfortable to sit on for long without geting the urge to lie down. But I found on flicker this daybed that someone made himself. Hopefully, my mother, who is a furniture maker, can make the same for me.

Oh my gosh, I absolutely love it!
Now... where AM I going to buy it???
It's beautiful. But how do you make it? How do you reach the far corners to affix the bottom sheet? How do you tuck in the bedding?
