Felt Boxes by Parkhaus

When we're cleaning up there are always those few items that are most at home left out. Sunglasses, current magazines, iou's. We love to have a catch-all around for holding these day-to-day essentials. We'd really love that catch-all to be one of these felt boxes by Parkhaus in Berlin.

The box designs vary from the handled one pictured here to a round one, squared ones and woven ones. We love felt for its soft structure. We're keeping our eyes peeled for the moment we can purchase these online. A new Parkhaus online shop is currently under construction.

I thought that looked familiar. Their showroom was just down the street from the apartment I rented in Berlin earlier this month! Their stuff was truly beautiful. It took a lot of restraint to leave empty-handed.

what sort of price point are they?

This is really pretty, but isn't a catch-all basket just a clutter magnet? This would be a disaster in my apartment, anyway. Sunglasses should go on the landing strip, current magazines on the coffee table or in a magazine rack, and IOUs... the filing cabinet or ticker file.

I really wish that I could remember. I was tempted by a lot in this shop, but I do know that with the exchange rate, the price didn't invite a lot of impulse buying. There was so much great stuff at this store that it was kind of overwhelming, including really cute animal shaped egg warmers, key chains, and leaf shaped trivets that locked together (my favorite). I actually went back to take another look, take a few notes, and buy the leaf trivet, but it was closed. Apparently in Germany, they celebrate the Feast of the Ascension, but it has kind of morphed into this crazy Drunken Man Day over the years.

Anne in Chicago - you took the words right out of my mouth. I know that for me, with only so many sq ft to spare, the number of things taking up floor space is kept to a minimum.

Pentacost, Acension... no drunken fests here in Switzerland, but lots of days off school!

Rolled dry towels in a bath, newspaper for recycling, random toys... I think they have several possible dedicated purposes other than clutter magnet.
