We've blogged numerous techniques for transforming furniture, including decoupage, liming and staining. These techniques are not limited to furniture. They can also be used to transform walls, floors and ceilings. Patience and a eye for color and composition can take these techniques from the ridiculous to the truly sublime, transforming your home into an interactive work of art and your furniture into true objects of beauty, unique and personal...
Whether the obstacle for doing it yourself is time, patience or just plain old clumsiness, you might consider calling Kate Hoffman. With a degree in fine art and 16 years of experience as a specialty paint-finisher, she can manifest your idea with speed and beauty, whether it's a mural for your dining room, a skim coating of Venetian plaster for your living room, a mosaic in your garden or, what we've already talked about having Kate do for us, clouds on the ceiling of our bedroom with stars painted in paint that glows only at night. I used to do alot of this type of work when I was in the film industry in the nineties worrking as a painter...it was huge back then
I've always appreciated it when it was done well but have seen WAY too many bad faux's...
I hope it makes a comeback,it can transform a space so much more then just solid painting can-and also help camouflage many a bad surface!!!
I'd maim someone to have that gorgeous beamed ceiling in my home...
I am looking for someone like this to do a furniture painting (trompe l'oeil) job for me in NYC. Anyone know of someone in the NYC area?
My mother in law is a painter and muralist.
I plan to put her to work when i get a house someday.
I want a night sky in my bedroom w/gold leaf stars and huge happy murals in future childrens spaces.
With potentially the occasional whimsy (bird perched on a door frame) touch here or there.
I love the space in the above painting, what room of the house is that?
