Yesterday we blogged Madshome's Hunde Hus Indoor Dog House/Bedside Table. And while we think the pet retreat is very cool, it's that wall that wowed everyone. So we went right to the source. Here's what Mads said...
The wall is a "Scrap Wood Wall". It is made from various lengths of 2x4s ripped in thicknesses from 1/4 to 1 in. I put all the pieces through the thickness planer to get one smooth side and gave them a walnut stain. The pieces were then randomly attached to the wall with hot-melt glue.

Thanks, Mads!

I showed my BFF and he said the dusting would probably be ridiculous. I wonder if she has issues with that. It's still absolutely gorgeous and a great alternative to a brick wall.
Looks very designer-ie. Love it.
That is so beautiful. Looks like a crazy amount of time went into glueing that. Love it.
i LOVE the look of this.... its so cool!
any chance you could share the approximate cost of this project- and how large the wall is???
Ah hah, to solve the dusting problem you only need turn so far as AT post from this morning - Extra uses for the HAIR DRYER. Woo-hoo. You go guys. Today has been a really fun AT day for me (aka slow day at work).

LOVE it! I can't believe that it was a DIY!!!
To paraphrase Tim Gunn, "That's a lot of glue."
10 out of 10.
Yay I can do it myself! Wo hoooooooooo!
Wait - I mean, hubby can do it himself!
Like like like!
Love the wall...
Is that a cairn terrier?
"Yay I can do it myself! Wo hoooooooooo!

As long as hubby has a table saw, a planer and lots of wood...
Taloferia, I might be wrong but I think they are Norwich terriers.
Hi Everybody - glad you like the wall. The wall measures 18x9ft. and about 1100 pieces were used. The wall is pretty easy to make, but does take some time to do. I did it over a period of two weeks. The dust is not a big problem, we just use a vacuum with the brush attachment. The models are Cairn Terriers and their names are Stanley and Hardy.
Kudos! I'm a pretty avid DYI-er but never would've guess that was DYI. Fantastic!!!
Love the wall and love Stanley and Hardy too.
The wall is gorgeous and so is the dog house, did you make that as well?
Beautiful! Great job Mads!
With that awesome relief/ texture, if you uplight it or downlight it close to the wall, the subtle shadowing effect will knock socks off.
"the dogs have it"

ooh. swanky. very swanky.
The wall is a great idea, I just don't know that I would have the patience to execute it. Plus I'm such a woodworking perfectionist, I'd have to stain, plus sand and varnish all of those pieces. I'd be crazy.
I might have the patience to do it, but I think I'd shoot myself when the time came to undo it. Still, it looks fantastic!

What does ripped in thickness mean?
GORGEOUS!!!! maybe i could live with dusting it if i had to!
