Color Inspiration: Musical Monochrome

Interiors from Classic Movie Musicals

Movie musicals are known for larger than life characters performing in splashy, showstopping numbers - but take a closer look at the sophisticated and subdued color palettes behind those screen legends and you just might find inspiration for your own home.

Production designers in film are color craftsmen, creating backdrops off which the characters will pop. Now think about that new pistachio Kitchen Aid mixer or that tangerine mid-century ottoman you scored at the flea market. Take a tip from some of our favorite movie musicals from the 50s and 60s, and consider a monochromatic color scheme - whether set against a dramatic navy blue or varying shades of grey, allow some of your favorite statement pieces to have their very own Judy moment.
