Dark and moody colors have definitely been at the forefront of Color Month. We don't know the reason for this, but does it really matter? We've talked about grey, navy blue and black — naturally, olive green is next.
Olive green is much like navy — it can be a dark and moody color, as well as a neutral. You can base your entire room around an olive green sofa or you can paint the room a more subtle shade of greenish brown. That's what's so great about olive green, it works just as well as a statement as it does as a neutral.
We're certainly partial to using it in a bold and dramatic way!

Olive green reminds me of the scratchy, itchy, wool blankets I used as an Air Force brat. I can't imagine a less opulent color, and prefer greens that are bright and clear. Olive green may look good in other people's homes if it's not combined with camoflage colors. A military color palette probably wouldn't be cozy/homey.
I just painted one wall in the master bedroom an olive green (Martha Stewart Mossy Rock) to see how it would look against our brand new new, super ornate and somewhat "opulent" wooden bed, and it is quite possibly the most gorgeous thing ever. I'm obsessed with how beautiful it looks. I'm skeptical about painting the rest of the walls the same shade though - I wonder if it will be almost a little too dark/too rich...
I love olive green! I have painted a portion of my living/dining combo in olive green and like @EC I am scared to paint the whole area for fear it will look like a cave (my apt doesn't get a lot of natural light). I am leaning towards taking the plunge and painting the whole room.
I'm absolutely in love with the deer head light on the wall. Anyone know where I can find one like it? My googling has left me slightly empty-handed!!
My son wants to paint his room Olive green. Can anyone recommend a shade? Preferably Benjamin Moore.
color on walls always represents 'courage' to me. and the bolder, the better. i like being surprised when i go to people's homes. anyone can take a safe road - but it's those fortunate and brave few that know how to provide a color on their walls that inspire them and excite their guests. even if a color is not my choice of shade, if the homedwellers are committed to the hue, i buy into it and just - love it! go green.
Behr's Painted Turtle is a great green color. I actually don't like Behr paint, but went to Benjamin Moore and they colored matched it for me. Very happy!
Hello, curvy white sofa, I love you, won't you tell me your name?
Deep olive can be dramatic and rich with the right palette. The first picture (touches of gold, white and a pop of orange) is a great example of making it look moody-luxe rather than army-issue.
@lizzybee You can find those light-up trophies all over in South Africa. These guys could probably source and send it for you: http://www.africanova.co.za/ (although it would be much cheaper from a guy on the side of the road!)
love ! especially that olive green chesterfield couch <3
