We've talked about Orange Door's Fabulous Front Porch before and now we're taking a look at the amazing job they have done in utilizing the space in their narrow home. They shared photos of their renovated home in the Apartment Therapy DC Flickr Pool and we couldn't resist sharing the inspiration with other narrow home dwellers!
The furniture in the living room was positioned perfectly for this type of home. The lack of television gave the home owners additional options for furniture layout. No need to worry about the location of outlets or the dreaded glare on the tv!
The combination of the light furniture, white carpet and pale gray/green walls helps to make the room look much larger than it actually is. We also love that the fireplace was painted white, it stands out and also adds so much extra light to the room. They also managed to squeeze in a landing strip in the small area to the side of the front door, a space that most narrow home dwellers seem to overlook (myself included!).
Their seating and dining area is located on the opposite side of the stairs. The homeowners did a great job of utilizing the back of the staircase by placing their dining table there. We love that all of the wood tones match and the white molding seems to pick up the sunlight that comes through the corner window. In narrow homes, especially rowhomes, the space can be awkward. Like Orange Door, we chose to store our books in the area between the living room and kitchen - it can be an awkward space, but we've found it to be a great place for a small library.

I love it! The wall colors are amazing! I would love to know the exact formulas for those colors. Also, I wonder where they got the portrait over the fireplace. It's perfect in that space. LOVE it!
Very lovely! Makes me want to see more!
Yes, great use of space, and the living room looks so light and cozy. I'd really like to know the name of the paint color in the dining/bookshelf area. Been looking for a color just like that for my living room.
i would also love to know where they found their sofa?!
i WANT that portrait and those dining room chairs! lovely!
Great space! house tour anyone?
love the compact kitchen table. where is this from?!?!
Hehe, I went onto Apartment Therapy this afternoon to root around for inspiration to build a cabinet for my living room, and as I scrolled down the page I saw this picture of my living room! I was delightfully surprised and also extra inspired to get cracking at my next project, but I thought I'd respond to a couple things first.. The dining table, I think is what Bwayp is asking about, is from IKEA, the dining chairs were a refinished craigslist find, the sofas (which I don't love, and have spent a lot of time trying to make them 'work' are from Jennifer Convertibles..one of them is a sleeper sofa, aka our guest room) The dining room color is BM Grey Owl, and the Living Room color I can't find, but it's something like BM Storm Cloud or Storm Grey? Also, the portrait above the fireplace is a portrait of a relative of my husband that was painted by my husband's great-grandmother.
I adore the llama... I'm obsessed with them. I've got 3 of my own (dolls anyway) The one you guys have is über sweet.
