While driving around the East Side of Austin this week we ran into this neat outdoor decor a homeowner had used to decorate the trees in their front yard. Grammar as decoration...interesting! Read more after the jump!
The three hanging words (the primary conjunctions of the English language) seem to be made of wood and metal and hung by thick rope. What the homeowners are trying to say with their grammar decor, we're not sure. What an interesting idea, though! It certainly brings color to the yard!

I used to work in San Francisco on Harrison St. @ 18th, not far from the vacant Lilli Ann building. I was driving by one day when I saw that someone had started gutting it and I immediately pulled over and asked for the foreman. I wanted the giant letters on the marquee! So I have two sets of Lilli Ann letters (the L and A are about 2.5 feet tall, and the shortest I letters are about a foot) patiently waiting for the perfect installation in my sewing room.... one of these days! I want to paint them a gorgeous lacquered shade -- maybe red or turquoise. I'll be sure to submit them to AT for advice when the time comes. :-)

We should try and make America more beautiful---this is why people always want to go to Europe to not see this type of stuff.
Am I the only person getting tired of the constant "Austin is eccentric/hip/funky!" parade? Please -- not everyone in NY wears black, not everyone in SF is gay or lesbian, and not everyone in Austin is hip, funky or eccentric.

poptart, I think you should be aware that Europe is the birthplace of the modern art movement and thus, actually has lots of modern and pop influences in the public art and architecture. In fact, much of it is often placed for dramatic effect next to much older traditional buildings. I would rather live next to something like this (which I think is fun and witty), rather than some McMansion or homeowner association controlled neighborhood.

no matter how awesome all you people think this is, i would not want my neighbor hanging that in their front yard. and luckily they would not.
I think what some people aren't getting, is that this is the eastside of Austin. It's an neighborhood populated largely by artists. Seeing art in people's yards is common there. This is not the suburbs. It's a young, hip, artistic, urban neighborhood.
It looks like something squirrels would enjoy climbing on.
Love the art. Too bad the house and yards look like crap.
