02_02_09_quilt.jpgWhat happens to all those fabric swatches from furniture companies? Something wonderful, that's what. In 2008, two tons of unwanted fabric were turned into quilts, wheelchair bags, and other necessities for children who otherwise might have gone without. The program is called the Green Initiative For Furniture and Textiles. . .

The quilters were already an organization, so when the furniture companies agreed to hand off their swatches, all the pieces fell into place. And what's more, they're setting up distribution centers across the nation and trying to lessen their carbon footprint by growing, so that they'll have designated drop-off centers regionally.

It just goes to show: A world of good can come from recycling and volunteerism!
