Quiet, relaxation spots are all the more rare and all the more important as we head into the full festiveness of the holiday bustle. Do you have the perfect solitary getaway in your own home?

The holidays are the perfect time to appreciate your own home, and not just because you have a new excuse to decorate. As my family's calender begins to fill up with fun extras, I always look forward to the coziness of our own home, and like to look for ways to make at least one tiny spot a little more serene. I've learned a lot from my toddlers and dog about this particular practice. They seem to instinctively know how to carve out a private escape in the most unlikely of places. Maybe it's our caveman roots, but as much as we love our open spaces, we seem to have a soft spot for cozy nooks and fort-like settings.
Where is your in home getaway?

I used to do that first one when I was a kid! Empty off a shelf, get a book and a pillow, climb in, read...
Although the books I scattered all over the floor probably didn't appreciate it...
So inviting, so divine, so envious.

Made a tent...under the covers with a flashlight as a kid.
That tasselled curtained alcove is beautiful and very romantic... until it gets just TOO hot in there. Still, I'd be tempted to try it for a while!!
We have a loft... quite separate from the rest of the house... and not very large. One small dormer window and a skylight. Very cosy. It was the final detail that just sealed the deal when we toured this house for the first time.
Can't neglect the effect of emotion on purchasing, that's for sure. We're prime examples! Love nooks and lofts and cosy corners, and we're making more of them now in the garden, too!
I don't like the first spot - it's a bit tight for me - but I love the others. They look so comfy and cozy - perfect for an afternoon of reading that trails off into an unexpected nap. Mmm.

What I wouldn't give the last one.
DeborahMcP - Would love to see pics of what you have done with your space. We have a similar setup, a separate loft space with enough room for a double chair and a skylight. Would love to get some inspirational ideas on what to do with the space.
