Inspiration: Shared Bedrooms

Perhaps it's because, in the current economy, people are reluctant to upsize their homes to make room for new children. Or perhaps it's because parents want their kids to have the special closeness (complete with invigorating, life-affirming territorial bickering) that room-sharing can bring. All we know is that we've been spotting a lot more shared rooms featured all over the web these days. We've rounded up some of our favorites after the jump.

The room featured at the top of this post was actually published in Living Etc in January 2006. (There go any budding trend theories.) We're not sure which we like more: the gorgeous upholstered antique headboards or the fact that the beds are just close enough for middle-of-the-night handholding... or arm-punching. (That last comment may have been colored by our own bedroom-sharing experience.)

As this next photo shows, you can't go wrong with bunkbeds, great storage, a lovely wall color, and lots of natural light. (First published in 25 Beautiful Homes.)

We found these next two pics from Domino via Desire to Inspire. The first is a nice mix of classic and modern, with funky touches like the faux (we're assuming) zebra headboards. The second is a bit more our style (nothing against those who love their faux zebra), with what look to be plywood walls and -- our favorite element -- Marimekko panels used as privacy curtains around each bed.

What? Doesn't every nursery have room for two cribs, two beds, and a foosball table? If yours does, perhaps this next space by Sixx Designs will stoke your creative furnace.
