Say what you will about one of our favorite design moments of the 80s, the paint splatter (second only to "shapes" in it's neon brilliance); we're in love with artist Sterling Ruby's reimagining of designer Raf Simons Tokyo boutique...

To us, this doesn't read as nostalgia or irony so much as a great use of random pattern. We can even see this translating beautifully to living space; the blue-on-white is reminiscent of a certain decorator's penchant for busy but classic prints.

What do you think?

Looks like someone executed the Blue Diva Plavalaguna in there...

Ahhhh... I was just in Tokyo last week and saw the Raf boutique... so stunning at night. Beautiful for retail, but I couldn't imagine it in my own home.
I was never a fan of the splatter paint look back in the 80s...and I'm still not.
