The laundry room is actually the perfect place to take style risks, since it's almost always a private space where guests are unlikely to go. So why not choose the laundry room for that wacky graphic wallpaper you've been dreaming of, or a DIY stencil project, or a giant blown-up photo from a vacation?
Some of the details pictured in the laundry rooms above are both lovely and functionally clever. The chicken wire cabinet fronts, for example, in the first photo, are cute and rustic, and they also allow easy viewing of the supplies stored within. The first photo in the second row shows a nice little DIY fabric skirt to disguise naked plumbing under the sink.
Here are some ideas for ways to inject style into your laundry area:
• Wallpaper!
• A chandelier or other fancy light fixture
• Artwork (vintage laundry signs are always fun!)
• Cute, colorful storage baskets
• Bold, bright paint
• A graphic rug or mat
• Stenciled paint or a mural (here's your chance to get creative without worrying too much about the perfection of the results!)

A tv in the laundry room? I hope never to be stuck there that long. These are inspiring and decadent! I'd love to have the space for this.
I wish my laundry "room" looked like number 8. Drool. I have a closet. The door always swings shut so it constantly hits my head when I'm trying to take anything out of it.
love the fabric around the sink base in number 6
I'm with veslabeachgirl--decadent is right! Usually I would find this kind of thing to be too over-the-top, but for some strange reason, each one of these laundry rooms made me smile.
I am also in love with the fabric around the base in room 6. Anyone know the source?
I wish I could see the floor of my laundry room or at least get the door closed (the clothes have blocked the door open) so I can walk by without seeing the HUGE pile waiting to be sorted and washed. It just never goes away.
My dream laundry room would have 2 washers & dryers to try to keep on top of all the laundry. Thank god we've only got 2 kids. I can't imagine what it would be like with more!
I would like to see some inspiring laundry rooms with your standard top loading washer and front loading dryer. It seems like any laundry room will look good with the washer and dryers above.
Does anyone know where I can get that drying rack in picture #5? I need something just like that.
I have to agree with appledeco. Some of these washer and dryer sets cost more than my previous car.
Yet they are beautiful. I lust for them. But this all seems very expensive.
I love the wallpaper and chandelier in the first photo.
Number 7 is awesome. I know what its like to have to work your laundry area into your living area. We have to put ours in my ten year old son's room. It was the only place in our condo where it could be installed for a reasonable price. I definitely need to take some inspiration from this and try to make it so the washer/dryer is not an eye sore.
For jlyn Ikea has a similar wall rack in that you can slant, then store it flat when not in use. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10177178
And for minasan I'd hazard a guess that the fabric in #5 is also from Ikea...all the accessories are so it wouldn't be far fetched. Unfortunately they come out with new fabric each year and d/c the old stuff. Might be hard to find.
This is the stuff *my* dreams are made of.
My favorites are the first 3 and the last one which is in the 2010 HGTV Green Home.
The raised platform/basin for the machines in pic #7 is darned clever too!
QUESTION FOR ALL: anyone have suggestions/flickr photos of standard laundry CLOSET set-ups? I don't have an entire laundry room but a laundry closet with bi-fold doors (they need to remain because of the limited space in front). my washer and dryer are side by side and both are front loading. there is no room on either side of the machines but plenty of room vertically for extra storage. any ideas? i'd like to DIY.
These are great! I'm also obsessed with the laundry room Molly Frey recently designed in a Marblehead, Massachusetts home.

Nice pics! I also put a washing machine drum as pendant light in my laundry room. You can see it in my blog:

I like the wallpaper idea. I moved my washer & dryer to the kitchen last year from the basement, because a) my sump pump kept failing, and b) I had more than a couple of hairy moments negotiating the stairs with laundry. Now they sit in a very convenient corner, but I've been wondering how to incorporate them into an upcoming kitchen redo.
I would love to see something like this done with a basement laundry room and a top-load washer/dryer. I can't be the only one still using Mom's old Maytag and I am not willing to trade upstairs space for a cute laundry room.
Thank you veslabeachgirl! Those will be perfect.
