Remember a few months ago, when we encouraged all of you Re-Nest readers with great green ideas for your community to enter the Green Effect challenge? Well, the winning ideas have been announced! And while our idea didn't crack the top five, the ones that did win are truly inspirational. Read on for more about the DC row houses pictured above, and find out just what these five green community projects are all about.

From building a greenhouse and offering organic gardening classes to high school students in Massachussets, to planting pine saplings in Colorado, to a program that will help 20 low-income families in DC green their homes, the winning ideas will all absolutely make an impact. Read about all the winners and watch their action plans here.

They'll inspire communities, make changes in the lives of families, and help make the world a better place. Now if that doesn't give you a warm, fuzzy feeling....We hope it at least inspires you to get involved in your community, with or without a generous grant!
