Yesterday's post about homemade play kitchens got us thinking about how such pieces have the potential to become family heirlooms. Then along came this photo to bring that point home. Cath over at Chunky Chooky discovered her cherished childhood hutch (aka the "Kitchen Thing My Dad Made") in her mother's garage and promptly whisked it home, where it now occupies a place of honor in her kitchen.
Says Cath on her blog:
My Dad made it for my sister and I when we were children and I discovered it again. (Yes, there was much squealing and swooning and tears of joy.) It went straight into the car to be taken home immediately. I think it is the most beautiful thing in the world and it would be one of those things I would grab in a fire.
Did you just get a little lump in your throat? That's okay, so did I. The nicest part of this story is that in addition to providing lovely memories every day, this little hutch is now happily used by Cath's own daughter, Busy.
