This tiny bathroom is just two meters squared and is the main bathroom of the Sproule house. The design originally wasn’t Mondrian-inspired but based on the windows in the main dining area as seen below.
It was only after the tiling was completed that Andrew Maynard from Andrew Maynard Architects made the connection. “It was defiantly a sub-conscious borrowing rather than a direct reference” Andrew said. Either way, the bold pattern makes the bathroom seem a lot more spacious than it really is and we really enjoy how it contrasts with the claw footed bath [although we would have loved to have seen some yellow]. i love that bathroom. it looks beautiful, recognizable and at the same time not like it's trying too hard.
Subconscious? Dude, this is art history 101. I'm a little shocked that a trained art professional didn't catch this sooner, and would then brag about it being an afterthought.
eeeek. no. i like mondrian, but not that much, and that's just a major overstatement. it's like tiling the american or british flag.
I love it.
Hmm, interesting. I like it too (for him), but I'm not sure I'd want to live there . . .
No, I would. I like it. It's growing on me by the second.

Maybe this doesn't get overwhelming, but the fixtures are very very nice.
