As the focal point of most bedrooms, the headboard is a feature in which there lies opportunity to think outside the box. From fashionable wall decals to reclaimed window frames, check out these eight great rooms with novel bed-heads.
When I was in college, I could barely afford my diet of ramen noodles and Natty Light, let alone new furniture of any kind. Still, I always found ways create the impact of a good headboard in the bedrooms of various apartments I lived in by simply painting them on the walls. In one room I grounded the bed with a simple, modern stripe, in the next room it was an ornate rod-iron inspired silhouette. Whether you you simply depict the essence of your favorite headboard, or repurpose old pieces (like in many of these inspirational images), it doesn’t take much to create a powerful look without spending a fortune on a store-bought or custom design.

That first one is awesome! And I've always liked the idea of old doors as headboards.
That Natural Wood headboard is amazing!
For the chalkboard one headboard, I want to know how you keep the chalk from getting on the sheets? Seems to me it would become uncomfortably dusty.
Great first one.
Does anyone really go to those spam sites?
The Country Window headboard is stunning-- it's wonderfully evocative of a stained glass rose window.
The mirror headboard makes me think of really inappropriate things. I kinda like it in a way, but I can't quite shake the picture some d-bag watching himself have sex in it.
I don't know, funstraw, but wouldn't it be nice if AT actually got its act together and deleted spam messages?
The first wood one put's the last one to shame.
OHHH I made a pretty unconventional headboard. It's a faux fireplace headboard, I wrote about it here!

Love them all...fav is the Gothic Decal from Blik.
Love the natural wood slab!!! I must say, the Repurposed Pallet Headboard looks like it would be a nightmare for splinters and scuffing off onto your nice white sheets. There is no good way to sand/seal wood like that without ruining the aesthetic quality.
I love, love, love the first one! Where can I find wood like that in NYC?
I wonder where I could find the bedspread used in the one with the mirror headboard - it is AWESOME!
Love these!
Loved every one! But agree w/ theweathermanlies about the pallet. Seems splintery and unclean. And the weatherman DID lie yesterday, we were supposed to have snow all day and all it did was rain rain rain.
But back to headboards - my absolute fav is the chalkboard. Rug, moldings, everything! And they say paint is the easiest way to redecorate!
the natural wood headboard is gorgeous.. the chalkboard one reminds me of 500 Days of Summer.. but the one with the two doors just looks sloppy..
First one awesome!, and the mirror must be SO fun :D
As a child, I had a friend who had one bedroom wall covered with a chalkboard. It was cool, but filthy! Chalk dust everywhere, all the time.
LOVE the first one, the pallet one just seems toxic to me; nevermind the splinters, why would you want to breath in that filth every night?
i have a bamboo garden wall trellis as my headboard. looks great.
The doors feel like bad Feng Shui to me -- as if someone could walk in right behind you while you sleep.
Thank you, AT, for the spam deletion!
I love the big slab o' wood and the huge wall mural...
...But a big mirror? That's just begging for 7 years of bad luck!
Amazing headboard with that piece of polished timber. Love it! Compilation of headboards made out of recycled doors http://dondehogar.blogspot.com/2011/03/puertas-los-suenos.html
The first one is awesome. The mirror would drive me nuts because I'd been cleaning it all the time.
i'm scared of the room with old doors as headboards...creepy!
martigny,
Spam deletion is a hassle. Even if they could put someone on it, it would still take awhile to track through all of their postings on all of their sites. They are pretty receptive and get to it quick when I've emailed them directly, but I don't have time to do it. They should have the blog authors monitor all their own postings for the first 4 hours of each posting, That's when most spam enters the comments section.
My only complaints with AT are grammar, misleading headlines, and occasional poor editorializing.
THE NATURAL WOOD HEADBOARD-BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING! LUV THE MURAL AND ARCHED WINDOW AS WELL.
I love these. This is the headboard I made using tape: http://www.flushingthenoun.blogspot.com/2009/09/sticky.html
