We're all looking for extra storage in our homes and sometimes it's extremely hard to find any spare room. If you have a large family or you're a struggling graduate student in the smallest studio ever made — you certainly know the importance of concealed storage.

Of course we've all seen under stair storage before, after all, isn't that exactly where Harry Potter lived at one point? We definitely aren't recommending putting your nieces or nephews in there; but we do think it's a great use of unused space to turn into storage!
If you have an older home, you can still keep the integrity of the home in mind by disguising the cabinets. Have built in handles made so at first glance guests would have no idea that was actually storage. There are hundreds of ways to go about adding under stair storage, but we think this one is especially great. What do you think?

love!
all that storage would be dreamy.
Wow this is a fantastic use of space! Beautiful.
very cool! It's better then having a little room this keeps everything a lot more organized and reachable. Great design work!
Fabulous use of the space and great for organizing!
It's very, very cool, but as someone in the middle of finishing an old house's basement, I can assure you that it would be really expensive, unless you have the most creative contractor in the world! Which I apparently do not....
But where will I keep my orphaned nephew? He can't stay in a ROOM.
jkmp: i am about to embark on a basement reno, and was given an astronomical figure for a similar idea (i was interested in a built in shelf, no pull-outs or anything fancy-schmancy). i'm not sure why a wooden box translates to $$$$$$--but i hope to exploit my family members and their skills to realize my dreams without bankrupting myself.
Love it. I may try something similar under my basement stairs. I was planning on just shelving, but this is so much more useful - deeper, and closed!
Ingenious!
That is an amazing idea!
Such a good use of space.
@Kitalita: LOL!
In multi-floor houses this space is usually the staircase underneath.
In our old house, though, the basement stairs (and landing area and some space "preceding the landing") had this kind of underneath space available. When we finished the basement we made it closet. We hung double bi-fold doors under the landing where there was the most ceiling height. About half the under-stairs space was in that closet, too. Under the lowest section of the stairs we made a separate little cupboard where we tended to store reusable packing materials (boxes, styro "popcorn", bubble wrap...)
The walls were BRIGHT yellow and the doors and trim were white, so the room was very cheery!
I love this idea.
How fabulous is that?
I'm stunned. That's almost too perfect!
My poor husband will be very upset that I found this post. Now he has another "to do" task. We can always use more storage in our old farmhouse!
this is just what I've been looking for for MONTHS! it's beyond perfect. thank you thank you thank you!
