Loving this fabulous oversized mobile, one of the sets for the play where the three women meet

Okay, confession. Although I'd heard about this movie, I'd never actually seen it. Recently, it showed up while I was channel surfing and I decided to watch it. Sucked in might be a better way of describing it...

Lyon and Anne's house is a classic open plan house set on the beach in Malibu. Terrazzo floors and oatmeal grey couches are classic. The red pillows, as well as being in sharp contrast to the neutral couches, let us know what's at stake here -- the heart

The interiors and the clothes are as compelling as the unexpectedly dark story of the struggle of the three women and their relationship with success. For any design lover, the history of design seen in the evolution of the interiors is as addictive as the pills, aka "dolls" of the title. The story begins just after World War II and ends in the mid-sixties; the women's evolution is echoed in the design as the settings move from dark traditional interiors to classic bright mid-century California modernism, from New York to Paris to Hollywood.
