We have a lot of stuff. We keep finding little things that we love at vintage shops, thrift stores--all over the place! We also constantly struggle not to allow our home to seem cluttered and junky. How do you keep the balance between liking things, and keeping a clean, organized look in your home?
Design*Sponge featured a sneak peek of supermarket sarah's home. We love all of the art, objects, mirrors, frames and, well--just things--that adorn her home. She has managed, in our opinion, to maintain a clean, organized, and orderly aesthetic. It's easy to lose a sense of balance and order when displaying your favorite finds, but we think this home provides hope and inspiration for those of us who can't stop adding to our collections!

1) Rotating collections of things I already own.
2) Reminding myself that just because I like it doesn't mean I have to own it.
Grouping like items makes a big difference between an artful arrangement and a cluttered mess - which is not to say that or "everything that sits on a table goes there" or "everything that can hang on a wall goes here" (like the photo above...)
Say you collect old signs, nautical-themed oil paintings, vintage decorative plates, ethnic masks and photographic prints: Rather than pilling everything together on a single wall, try displaying your photo prints on a wall together in one room, the boat paintings in another room, the signs along the hall, the masks above the fireplace and the plates on the wall in the breakfast nook.
Or let's say you collect all types of vases - Arrange them so that say the moulded ceramic vases are on the credenza, the hand-thrown pottery vases are on top of the bookcase and the colored glass vases are on a ledge near the windows.
I really dislike this picture; it looks like a great example of how not to do things. Loads of cluttery junk that looks very random and hodgepodge. Editing is crucial.
My OCD could not handle it.
When editing things out I try to look past all the reasons I'm telling myself I "need" to keep this item or at least not put it in storage, and ask myself "would I miss this if it was gone or out of sight?" It's been pretty useful in paring down my clutter.
I would be tremendously happy with just that lovely mask, the horn (?) and the booze
Never display more than you're willing to dust.
I like it.
Constant editing, but not in a refined kind of way. Like, feeling overwhelmed and spazzing out and shedding. Also, something in=something out.
creative license put it perfectly. more things, more dust, more work.
