• 1 ReadyMade magazine featured a project to add chevron stripes in wood grain to a plain filing cabinet. We love the easy DIY, as well as the bold numbered calendar, the large map above the desk, and the overall look of this workspace.
• 2 This home office at Living Etc. takes advantage of the long wall with a workspace for two, and maximizes storage space with six Ikea Lack shelves. The orange-red magazine files and binders add a nice pop of color.
• 3 We're pretty smitten with the idea of a large map over the desk, as seen again at Living Etc.. This desk area is simple and minimal, utilizing a few graphic boxes to stow supplies.
• 4 We love the idea of a mobile shelving unit. On wheels, this Habitat bookcase at Living Etc. is the right height for an extra work surface.
• 5 Adding a graphic wallpaper behind a desk area give some visual stimulation without being cluttered or distracting. This desk, at Living Etc., is a clean writing desk with a bit of cubby room to tuck some supplies.
• 6 Martha Stewart illustrates a clever use of kitchen cabinets in a workspace. Hinged at the top, these cabinets provide great overhead storage and don't look out of place.
• 7 We came across an amazing blog, called On my Desk, which features the desks of artists, illustrators, designers and creative folks, and "the stuff on their desks". One of our favorites is the large workspace of illustrator Edel Rodriguez, featured about 2/3 of the way down this page.
• 8 Anna, over at Door Sixteen has been chronicling the renovation of her home, and we absolutely love the look of her workspace, with bold, graphic wallpaper and a clean work area.

I always wanted to use an array of floating shelves to replace regular bookshelf. But I am sure that a dry-wall mounted floating shelves can hold the load of that many books.
These are beautiful. Do people actually work at them? I do like the ping-pong table one. There is real clutter suggesting real work happening.
Living Etc. is the best magazine in the whole wide world and is made of pretty. I'm buying a subscription for a London friend in exchange for her sending each issue to me when she's finished with it. Subscribing directly is just too expensive, alas.
That said, I'm really into that first picture from Readymade, too. See how easy I am?
Does anyone's desk look like this in real life? Mine is always just a mountain of papers waited to be filed.
I look forward to my temporary apartment for the summer 100% because there is a wall of windows I am putting my desk in front of... *sigh* heaven
Am I the only one bothered by desks that face the wall?
I am always amazed when I see desks facing the wall, especially when there is plenty of room. It feels much better when you can look into the room while working at your desk.
