They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. This is lucky for me since I don't know a lick of Danish (although I was able to surmise what interiør means). Lately, we have been featuring many Scandinavian homes bathed in white, but these rooms illustrate that other hues are also welcome additions into their homes.
While all of these interiors from RUM are different, the unifying theme seems to be the uncluttered nature of the rooms. Rarely do you find extraneous items, but when you do they are chosen carefully and with intent. These rooms are a beautiful study of thoughtful, yet restrained interiors. Now, if only we could read the magazine to get a bit more insight into the owners.
Thanks to emmas designblogg for introducing me to this lovely magazine.

That green kitchen just knocked my socks off. I love those deep, earthy colors. What a perfect place to take up the hobby of baking.
This is a great post! As beautiful as the interiors were, I was personally getting kind of sick of always seeing Scandinavian homes with a lot of white. But that's probably bc of where I used to work--offices with lots of boring white walls and absolutely no character. I'd rather not be reminded of that if home is to be a sanctuary. =)
I like that green kitchen too!!
The green kitchen is not Scandinavian, it is from Brussles. See book Brussels Style (taschen).
I'm 99% sure that #5 (the orange living room) isn't Scandinavian either. The text on Rums web-site calls the forest outside "bush", a word I have only heard being used about places in Australia or Africa. The forests in Denmark are called "skov". The trees don't look Danish/Scandinavian either.
The Europeans do have it ALL over us in the design department! Very nice!
I wish I could stop fawning over all white or all off white rooms. arg.
Oooo...Love the blue fireplace, and the blue and green kitchen!
Agree, jeffnyc - those Europeans DO have it goin' on, design-wise. I think it's something in the water....
That blue-green kitchen is gorgeous. So soothing and water-y.
Google will translate this for you. Just type the RUM (or any) url into the google search field and it will pull up the listing with the option to translate at the right of the link!
this home was featured in modernism magazine about 5 years ago. it was the exact same photo as the first fireplace shot, too. that's weird.
The kitchen is done with tiles & paint by Emery & Cie. I did my bathroom with their tiles. Check out their website for more deliciousness.
