Whether you’re someone who enjoys the lone comfort of a secluded beach resort or the energizing excitement of an urban destination, who among design lovers doesn’t also enjoy where they’ll be staying when they go on vacation — it’s half the fun of going! As we’ve enjoyed looking at each house tour on Apartment Therapy this year, there have been a number that caught our eye for a very specific reason: they exude that certain je ne sais quoi that makes the whole place feel like a vacation retreat all year long! Some of them have a strong beach feel, others wild and contemporary like some expensive and exotic big city hotel and others just have gorgeous views or quirky features. If you can’t getaway this summer — and even if you can — take a peek at these homes whose owners have masterfully created comforting, exciting retreats that they can enjoy 365 days a year.

Hoping to take some trips to St. Louis, Minneapolis and other close-by places. Probably check out way more local places though, working and relaxing. Love seeing your pictures, it's pretty inspiring and gets me in a creative mode. Really can't do much to my place at the moment, but I'm itchin' to start planning and figure out what my future place will look like. Getting great style ideas!

I usually prefer "stay-cations," but sometimes visit potential retirement destinations. I may visit the Pacific NW, and know so little about it that it's as exotic as a foreign country. My husband and I like gardening and natural beauty. We feel most at home among educated people who are low-key, upbeat, reasonable, clean, and who respect themselves and others. Which Pacific NW small cities does that describe?
I hear Seattle is beautiful. I've never been though. There are so many places that I want to make it to in the Pacific NW soon. Good luck with your search!
