I admire and envy people who have no trouble at all living in a minimalist space. The storage (if it even exists—I suspect true minimalists would scoff at the idea) is integrated and unobtrusive and the spaces are oases of calm. Unfortunately, this does not describe my home at all.
My husband is an academic and I’m a designer (not the minimalist kind, unfortunately). So books (and lots of them) and accessories are a fact of life—I’ve never met a pillow I didn’t like. We’ve tried in vain to cull and limit new entries in both categories to our home. Admittedly, we’re just not strong enough to resist the siren call of acquisition.
So for us, storage—the visible kind—is a necessity. There are tons of great wall mounted shelves, bookcases, and other storage solutions available here in the US, but I thought it would be fun to see what’s new in storage in my adopted hometown of Paris and maybe get a little bit of inspiration to take back with me to Chicago next year.

I live in a big house, but still it's not easy to find a place for everything. I loved your ideas.
Sweet! I consider our house to be fairly large (although it's only 1850sqft), but storage solutions are always helpful!
That is not storage, that is display.
having spend most holidays on a small boat with 3 orher people you truely learn the value of "dead" space like the gap between the door and the wall. Check out my solution here: http://ploefff.wordpress.com/2010/10/16/ekstra-siddeplads/ it's not in English but the post is very well illustrated.
While I appreciate the sentiment in your written post - and completely sympathize with minimalism envy - that magazine strap is totally useless! How are you supposed to get a mag out of that to actually read? If that's the kind of thing we're supposed to envy I think we should stay cluttered :)
Man.... the first one.... sooooo clever!!!
Those tubes piled up in some niche next to a fireplace or in those awkward places in some apartments.... really.... wow!!
