It's August (believe it or not!) and that means one more family vacation perhaps or reminiscing about previous trips over the summer. As a child, I always enjoyed having my father explain where we lived, where our friends and family lived, and where we traveled to on a globe. To get your kids thinking globally, try something similar to this terrific interactive atlas we found over at Cup of Coco.
Jennifer created the whole thing from wool felt with a velcro backing. She made moveable animals, landmarks and symbols to denote different parts of the world. The little suitcase in the corner holds all of the pieces. And check out the little pouch that holds a tethered airplane. We love this terrific idea for hanging in a nursery or playroom. For more details and photos, check out Jennifer's Cup of Coco blog.

Brilliant! My kids would love it.
Love it! I'm inspired to make one too!
Lovely.
I've seen this map before while searching for map ideas on the web and absolutely love it in all of it's gorgeousness and educational value!! I wish I had the patience to make one for my classroom, but I just made some finger puppets for my daughter that took too long and there were only five!! I guess I will just drool. :)
