What inspired you to use color? In my last apartment we were not allowed to paint the walls. The white apartment felt clinical and motivated me to take a bold and whimsical approach to decorating...
...I’m filling my new place with objects and colours that arouse joy and warmth (even though my choices can be somewhat overwhelming). I was also inspired by Jonathan Adler’s maximalist style, which I am trying to emulate little by little as the decorating process continues.
Color Tip: My one colour tip is to use clear colours. Muted colours are safe and can appear dull, bright ones instantly lift a place up.

Way to represent beautiful Victoria!! Yeah baby!
Gorgeous green... appropriate for the Garden City! Just lovely.
My favourite so far. It is all so delicate and personal, and looks so very, very soothing.
I find greens to be so soothing yet envigorating at the same time. I love the look of this room!
relaxing
It looks too minty. I would've loved to see different colors not al green. But I do like some of the pieces of furniture and artwork.
I need to know RIGHT NOW where you got your coffee table please!! :)
Your danish teak chairs are killer.
this is beautiful - I wish I was bold enough to use a green like this. You make it work.

Love the green, nice work!
I cannot believe this is a basement. You made such a simple and cozy nest. Its not my kind of green but you made it work.
Ok where do you shop in Victoria??
way to go bc!!! i'm in vancouver, and i think there's A LOT of great style here in british columbia.... and this truly is one of the best basement suites i've ever seen. great entry; well done!!!!!
I love the green walls! My last apartment had similar green-colored walls and it looked great with burnt orange velvet curtains. Oh, and I really like your wood chairs, too.
The green looks lovely and was a smart choice for this space. The bright color on the walls really lighten up the room and make you forget that this is a basement rental. Very nicely done!
Where did you get that picture by your dining room table??
Whole house looks great!
What paint color is that? It's gorgeous!
Very sweet and charming, but hardly what I would call bold. The green is an amazing shade - but I too wish you had layered some surprises in over it.
Hey all,
thank you for your comments. To answer your questions, I shop at thrift stores and through online classifieds (a la cheapo). The coffee table comes from a flea market. The painting above my table is a marimekko fabric "kassiopea" they have a million patterns to drool over. And I believe the green paint color (which is usually softer in shade) is from Benjamin Moore "fresh cut grass".
Now, Modfan, what do you mean by layering? I'd love some suggestions.
'Fresh cut grass' pulls everything together extremely well. Excellent choice.
