Necessity or complete fail? It's hard to tell, given how we can easily imagine two friends sitting around at Starbuck's Coffee fathoming such an idea, but we now officially have a thigh-band that essentially mocks the idea of the armband. Except now that we have it, well.. it seems more useless than anything.
According to the inventor, the purpose of the ThiPhone is to allow you to hold your iPhone during your commute on bus or the subway. It's also perfect for disabled individuals and children in kid seats.
This still has us scratching our heads a little bit. If this product is meant to be catered to someone half as cool as the individual pictured in the press release, how uncool would it be to walk around with a strap on your thigh once you got off your bus stop?
But who are we to judge? You can get the Thiphone for $29.95. Apply the code LAUNCH for a special 15% off. Still, it's kinda hard to take this product seriously, despite the catchy name...

absolutely retarded.
Seconded.
Personally, I would not use it, but I can imagine one using it on plane rides where you wanted to watch an iPhone/iPod movie. Better than balancing it without a strap as you would not drop it if you dozed off or if you wanted your hands free to knit or whatever. I really do not think they intend it for walking around.
