If you think that the aging AT&T 3G network isn't really up to par when it comes to dealing with the millions of new iPads, you might be right. An enterprising modder converted his iPad to the Verizon network, using Verizon's MiFi device. It's about 6 times faster now!

Before you jump onto the bandwagon and decide to rip apart your precious iPad, we'd like to warn you that doing so will void you warranty and you'll loose the GPS functionality. However, you'll gain a lightning-fast iPad.

This conversion is pretty complex. You'll need to use a 3G iPad and remove the AT&T module and replace it with a Verizon MiFi. This isn't easy, but it can be done by someone who knows how to work with electronics. There are a couple of extra steps, including connecting the MiFi to the battery and the antenna so that it works properly. Also, in order to fit it inside the iPad, the internal speaker has to be slightly trimmed.

You can read all about this here. It's kind of amazing what the modder was able to do. He says that his next project includes converting his iPhone to Verizon. We wonder if this is possible, but if he was able to do so for the iPad, we guess that it's possible to do something similar for the iPhone.
