I've been surprisingly well-served by Apple maps here in the heart of Los Angeles, but have heard some nightmare tales about being directed down non-existent streets or sent to destinations miles off intended locations. The parody commercial above illustrates some of the frustration experienced by adopters of Apple's unpolished Map app...

I find Apple Maps to lack as much as information on the screen as Goolge Maps provided, but the directions have been dead accurate for me (and I mean that in the usual sense, not in the sense that they've nearly killed me).
The directions aren't great but will do at a pinch.
Really miss transit, walking and bike directions. A significant downgrade.
I think it's a huge improvement. The maps look great, load fast, and can be zoomed and swiveled easily on my 3GS. We don't have much mass transit in this area, so the driving directions are a welcome upgrade. I don't have much of a problem with the lack of detail compared to Google's data.
There are a bunch of missing Points of Interest though. It's weird cause sometimes it'll find a very new, say five week old store and sometimes it won't find a store that's been here for 5 years.
I'm assuming the SF part of your name means San Francisco? If that's the case then I have to ask how difficult can it be to know the very small transit system of the Bay Area or San Francisco?
Growing up in New York City, with its much larger transit system, I never had any issues finding my way with existing maps. If I had to depend on mass transit entirely then learning and knowing the system should be a given.
