IKEA as a Babysitter?

Sometimes even the smallest break can make a difference. Just the other day on a trip to Ikea, the husband and I had the luxury of quietly shopping while our son gleefully enjoyed his one-hour stop at Smaland. A recent New York Times article discusses how many parents are discovering the thrill of an Ikea "date" and taking advantage of the opportunity presented....

Not everyone has a baby.

i wonder how many people just drop their kids at ikea for free baby sitting , leave for a nicer dinner, then come back >_>

I guess so, frozenemotion9, if they can do that in the hour of time they have until they have to pick up their kids. An hour isn't much and if their little one has a meltdown before the hour is over, they have to scoot back pretty quickly.

IKEA play ball pen = Swedish pit of disease

err...no babies allowed! And you have to remain in the store, in case they page you. If you don't answer the page, they will call social services on you. My local Ikea hasn't had those ball pens in years.

The IKEA in Seattle still has theirs and its more than just the ball pen but it's mostly that.

I didn't know you could LEAVE the kids while you shop. I'll keep that in mind next time I have my grandchild for the weekend.
