Is It Possible to Find a Lighting Solution for This Room?

Good Questions

Q: This is the main room/living room/dining area in our apartment. There is one (ugly) overhead light in the center of the room, and the windows are large and face directly south, so there is some decent light coming from there. It hasn't been too much of an issue since we moved here in June, since there's been a lot of daylight, but as the days are getting shorter, it's becoming more and more apparent that we need a serious lighting solution in this room, stat!

The ceilings are only 8 feet in here, so we can't use the chandelier we had in our previous place. How best to shed a little light on this room?! Should we do floor lamps? Where should they be placed? Table lamps on accent tables? I would love and appreciate any and all advice. Thank you!
