Sadly, yes.
In many ways, most of NYC is doomed. Glad I got to live here before the greed wiped out all its character and life.
Yikes, Frank NYC is too complex to be reduced to general terms. But speaking in specifics; Mr Kaufman's credentials don't offer hope for the unique character of the Chelsea. Now back to general terms; NYC has always changes, some good and bad decisions have been made. Let's hope that places like the Chelsea are here long after the people who currently own it are gone.
Geez, give this guy a break. Holiday Inn has a corporate image of being economical. Working under those constraints and designing rooms for hotels that can literally be placed anywhere can be difficult. Certainly, the budget for this project would be significantly larger than your average, Holiday Inn suite. I'd reserve judgement until I see the Renovation first.
I agree with Patrik. NYC has had a bazillion changes over time. Some good, some bad. The things you think of as "authentic" NY might have once been seen as a negative change for the previous generation. It's an always-evolving city.
