I took my son to the pediatrician recently and a 2-year-old was giving everyone pretend shots in the waiting room. Doctor play kits may take a little of the fear out of a doctor's visit and are a nice addition to a dress up box to encourage imaginary play.
Perhaps you remember playing with the Fisher Price doctor's kit when you were young? Here are 5 updates to the idea:
- Wooden Doctor Play Set by Soopsori ($39.99 at Digs)
- Eco-Friendly Handy Doctor Set by Wonderworld ($34.99 at FAO Schwarz)
- Wooden Doctor's Kit by Haba ($34 at Romp)
- 8-Piece Wooden Pretend Play Doctor's Kit with Storage Case ($29.98 at Magic Cabin)
- Soft Doctor's Kit by Haba ($35.09 at Oompa)

We have and like the Magic Cabin one. That paired with a working stethescope are awesome. http://www.forsmallhands.com/stethoscope I wish I could find a small semi-working blood pressure cuff.
The Fisher Price one was junk when we bought it and trash when it was recalled.
I love the look of the wooden ones, but my kids don't. They ditched the pieces we had accumulated for the plastic ones immediately. Their second choice is still random medicine cups, eyedroppers (shots), cloth napkins (slings and bandaids), and imaginary everything else.
We had some old pill bottles (no lids), a working stethoscope, various white cloth "bandages," and a selection of "shots" made of those injectors you get for babies' oral meds. You can put some colored tulle bunched up in the shot for realism. All this went in an old crocodile purse I had that opened and closed like an old timey doctor's bag. We also had the remains of a plastic doctor set that was played with alongside, and I think the most popular items were a series of "xrays" of a teddy bear. Oh, and the little hammer for checking reflexes. That ALWAYS got used.
We have this one:

It does come with a blood pressure cuff! Everything in here gets a ton of use. It is one of my daughter's favorite games.
Thanks, apartment therapy we've been inspired to do/make!
