Clearly, the iPhone is the phone to beat. It has been so ever since it came out. Unless you're a Crackberry addict, the iPhone is the phone to get. With rumors floating around that another version of the popular touchscreen phone will be released in June, other manufacturers are scrambling to come up withe new competitors for the iPhone. I haven't seen a viable competitor yet, but maybe the new Toshiba phone will be a contender. Read on to find out more.
The new Toshiba phone has an unappealing name. It's called the TG01 and was just launched in Japan. It's powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 and features GPS, Wifi, video playback, including Flash, a 3.2 MP camera and a microSD slot. The display is 4.1 inches wide and has a resolution of 800 x 480. Apparently this new device has a 3D GUI which is supposed to be pretty slick. It's only 9.9mm thick, which is actually thinner than the iPhone.
Honestly, I didn't know that Toshiba made cell phones, but this phone doesn't look too bad. The only problems this phone has is that it runs Windows Mobile and that it's got less internal memory than the iPhone. Toshiba released this phone without much fanfare. Is it going to be an iPhone killer? I don't think so. It will just be another phone trying to emulate Apple's winning formula. The iPhone's intuitive GUI is going to be hard to replicate. [via DVice]
