Color Inspiration: This room used to be the Master; we'd originally painted the red walls for us parents. When I set out to do an update on the room the girls begged me to keep the colour. (They are their mother's daughters.) I added in more colour and white where possible to keep it from being dark and overwhelming. The quilt on the bed was made by me, with contributions from an on-line quilt bee. It's a great focal point with my grandmother's embroidery above the bed. Ultimately, it is a bright room that for sleeping, playing, and creating. It also showcases family creativity in handmade treasures like the quilts and embroidery, but also my father's crochet and their own artwork.
Tip for Using Color: Don't be afraid of colour, even red walls. So many people save colour for accents. While that can and does look great, a big mix of colours on multiple surfaces also looks great. To keep it from looking like a preschool only choose two of the three primary colours.
Colors Used: Red on walls. Green and white on the dresser (vintage hand-me-down). Yellow and turquoise on the quilt (homemade). Rainbow sort on the bookshelf. Turquoise with orange, yellow, and green on the carpet (IKEA, but no longer available). White curtains (IKEA Ninni Trad)
Thanks for your colorful entry Cheryl and good luck!

I love the cork board squares. How are they mounted on the wall?
The cork squares came with sticky bits for the corners. We found they weren't holding very well so there is one nail in each square as well, for added hold. Picked up the cork squares at the big box stationary store.
I love the bold colors here! How is one big bed working out for your girls? My daughters will be a little less than 2 years apart once #2 arrives in Feb and as we live in a 2 bedroom, I wanted them to share a full size bed once they are out of cribs so we can use it for company as well. People I have told think it's crazy!
Hey, I recognize this room! I voted for you!

What an awesome room for a 3 and 5 year old.
nellymom, the one bed is working great. It was a matter of necessity at first. Now, when given the choice or the chance, they won't sleep apart. We upgraded to a queen earlier this year. When we have cousins over we can turn the bed sideways and fit another 1 or 2 kids in there. Sleepovers!
