Lately I've been fixated on salt & pepper shakers or bowls — they are like mini objet d'art that also serve a purpose.
I especially like the ones that add a little bit of elegance to the table, making the meal feel like an occasion. I scanned eBay and the rest of the web and found these 10 examples.
• 1 FB Rogers Silverplate Pheasant bird salt pepper shakers via eBay $7

• 3 ITALY 2 CRYSTAL SILVER SWANS SALT & PEPPER HINGED WINGS via eBay $15
• 4 Tiny Basket Bowl from Branch Home $26 each
• 5 STERLING SILVER SALT AND PEPPER SHAKERS--MEXICO via eBay $29

I hate to see people salt and pepper food at the table. Perhaps it is cultural but in my house it was considered an insult to the cook. Even worst are people that salt and pepper before they taste the food.
I'm not a huge salt & pepper shaker user- but I just got a darling set of Jonathan Adler dachshund ones for my birthday! too cute!

How funny- I spotted those pheasant shakers on Craig's List quite a while back and used them in a design mock-up:

Those birds look like they have been through some kind of horrible torture.
Much like leadingedge, salt & pepper shakers have never been staples at my table. The pepper grinder comes out for soups, but in general I have never had s&p shakers on my table (nor has anyone in my family). I've always wondered whether anyone really uses them?
Taste is subjective, and I guess right now Faith is subjecting us to hers. These are without a doubt the ugliest salt and pepper shakers ever displayed.
The brown and white set look like sex toys for women featured on The Kitchn blog is the picture I am referring to, I just realized they aren't in this list!
And, no, my mind is usually far away from the proverbial gutter. I am as Dworkin says, "one of those unfun feminists," and yes that means I believe the internet is more than a vehicle for porn.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can find a matching salt shaker and pepper mill?
I am trying to find a dark finish wood salt cellar. I've been looking for months with no luck. Any suggestions?
