Why I use color:
"In this house (my first), I have used color as a way of rebelling against the off-white walls of my childhood home(s), followed by years of institutional white apartment walls. Specifically, in this small, cozy media/family room, I have used vibrant color as a way to lighten and energize the space, which, despite its three windows, does not get very much natural light because of surrounding shade trees. The yellow, juxtaposed with the black and white photos on the walls, never fails to cheer me up ."

Color Tips:
"(1) Others have said it, but I repeat: test your chosen paint on the walls before finalizing a color decision. These walls were supposed to be a darker gold, rather than the sunflower they turned out. Luckily, I loved the (mistaken) result, but I learned my lessson.
(2) Keep a file of pictures/paint samples/fabrics you love as a color resource at your fingertips.
(3)Use bold wall colors with neutral furnishings. Bold colors on the walls are much easier to change/fix."

Color Resources:
"(1) Thanks to this site, my eyes have been opened to the endless and beautiful color possibilities in nature.

I'm not a huge fan of yellow, but I love this room. It looks like a great place to hunker down with some DVDs. I'm impressed by the compositions you've created with all the objects you display, and your successful combinations of more traditional lines (the couch) with modern shapes.
What exactly is the design of that white sheer over the windows? It looks enchanting.
This is one where I wish more than 4 photos were allowed. I keep seeing interesting hints of things at the very edges of the existing pictures...
good to see someone using something from CB2

I love the Modern chair juxtaposed with the Old Country gnome.
Let's start a new design trend: Gnomes Are The New Orange!
Also, I think yellow is a tough color to get right, which you've done.
I love your window area! The way you put together the curtains, the tord boontje curtains, and the lights is really fantastic.
I don't know if this is a straight yellow something towards the chartreuse tone, but I like what you've done with it. The photos are well set up. It was easy for the eye to pick up little splashes of complimenting colors, even from the books on the shelves.
Thanks for sharing.

The lighting you have chosen certainly is the key to each area. It brightens all your colors. Love what you have done!!
Well, you have certainly scored big here Jon! I expected no less of course. Now you have to come fix my house.....
Jon - I like the bookshelf. Where did you find it - I am looking for one just like it.
