Name: Candace & Tal Location: Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, NY Why I use color: "I chose color based upon mood. This apartment is our first home and while I wanted it to feel grown up I also wanted it to be whimsical and homey. We live in a moderate sized loft, so the colors help define and link various "rooms". The palette, browns, greens and blues are from nature and make me feel calm while the patterns create movement and interest."

Color Tips: "I have an emotional reaction to color, and I think finding and using colors that feel good is the key. People think that dark colors make small spaces feel smaller, but our use of dark brown actually makes the space warm and cozy, especially a modernist loft space. Color can create a sense of continuity or seperation for example in a loft using similar colors creates flow, whereas dissimilar colors can define spaces."

Color Resources: "For inspiration I look to designsponge's blog, in addition to shopping stores in brooklyn that carry great stuff like "Zipper" and "Living" in Carroll Gardens."
