Name: Jack (one month)
Location: Baltimore, MD
When designing this nursery for our first baby, my husband and I agreed that we wanted it to be a happy space that would be stimulating for our son, grow with him, and be a room in which we could spend hours playing with him.
Inspired by Sycamore Street Press letter press prints (there are a total of seven in the nursery), we chose bright primary colors, like blue and green, anchored by more substantial grey pieces like our Oeuf crib and CB2 Hopscotch rug and knitted pouf.
We love animals and so we included them everywhere, from the felt busts to the dachshund floor lamp, Dwell fabric book slings, and an adorable monogrammed ceramic pig speaker from West Elm. The result is a colorful, merry menagerie that has been my SECOND labor of love over the past nine months.
Source List:
• Sparrow Crib from Oeuf
• Cloud Mobile from Gosh and Golly on Etsy
• Crib sheet and skirt from DwellStudio
• Letterpress Subliminal Baby Prints from Sycamore Street Press
• CB2 Wire Cube Wall Shelf
• Hopscotch Rug from CB2
• Felt Menagerie Animal Heads
• Serena & Lilly Sausalito Moses Basket
• CB2 Knitted pouf
• CB2 monkey pillow
• Eames-style rocker from Trohv in Baltimore
• Offi Dachschund Floor Lamp
• West Elm monogrammed ceramic pig speaker
• Focal wall color - Sherwin-Williams Cooled Blue
Thanks, Kristy! Well done!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Love this room and all the details. In fact, as a grandma, I find lots of these baby rooms creative and full of wonderful ideas for new grandkids. But as a neonatal nurse - I cringe. My wish is that all these parents would listen to the Safe Sleep info they received at the hospital/from their midwife or OB, or from people like me - nurse practitioners.
Safe Sleep info is everywhere - can't imagine any hospital in the U.S. doesn't educate parents before they go home, or that pediatricians aren't reminding parents at checkups. Safe Sleep is simple: NO toys, NO blankets, NO anything in the crib -- except the baby. And baby is on his or her back to sleep. Let's make sure all these babies grow up safe and healthy.
Maybe Apartment Therapy could lead the way in asking parents to submit only photos of Safe Sleep environments, because they're committed to Safe Kids, too.
I'm pretty sure the crib was just staged for the picture with the toys and blankets... that's what most parents do for the room tours.
You are right Jessica, we did stage the crib and took these shots shortly before Jack came home. There is nothing but a sheet in his crib :)
Another nursery that I love... there seem to be so much of them lately, I have a thousand possible color scheme/themes for my future daughter... and she's supposed to be born in a few days. Hum. I may be a little late. But I'm still adding your photos to my inspiration file !
Since Maureen made a very good and professional point, there's a question I've been asking to myself for a while now. I've been doing some (superficial) research as to the rate of SIDS in France (where I live) and in the USA. It seems like we have a lower rate here, and yet, I got no information whatsoever on the subject when my son was born. Oh, sorry "have him sleep on his back, no cover or pillow" was the exact extend of it. I used fabric bumpers like everyone; we put a small plush rabbit at the foot of the bed. I don't think I'm doing things differently from everyone else here.
So, I wonder why the SIDS rates are so different, since we care a thousand times less about sleep safety than you Americans do. Do we measure the same things on both sides of the Atlantic when we talk about SIDS ? Are crib bumpers made differently ? I really don't get it. If plush toys and bumpers are a major cause for SIDS, we should have a much higher rate, at least comparable to that of the USA.
I just don't get it, I'm sure there's an explanation, but it eludes me totally. Any idea ?
I LOVE the hop scotch rug! Great room!
I'm glad to hear that Jack has a safe crib and smart parents! I still hope, though, that future pics are staged with Safe Sleep in mind - a great model that Apartment Therapy could support.
Crib manufacturers, for example, know all about Safe Sleep and why it's important. These companies have to build safe cribs, in conformance with regulations about things like slat distance, to prevent accidental deaths. But they still have ads with large crib bumpers and stuffed animals shown in their cribs. It may sell cribs by making them look cute, but they're squandering their opportunity to teach about safe sleep conditions. Not everyone is as well informed as Jack's parents!
Hope AT will take a moment to think about their policy.
Really nice job! I love the gray crib and frames. That pop of blue on the wall is a great choice and that hopscotch rug is cool! Wish it came in a slightly smaller size.
France doesn't allow children to sleep on chemical-drenched matresses. Fire retardants are strongly associated with SIDS and Australia, for instance, has saved many lives by getting rid of them. But no US advocacy group promotes safe crib mattresses.
Hi,
Can you please tell me the paint color name and the brand? It is all so well done!
Sherwin Williams Cooled Blue
The colors are just beautiful! I think baby boy nurseries are tough to do & you did it right!
JESSICALYNNW- I love that you always stand up to the naysayers in the comments :)
