LO XI (flowers) by Jacob Hashimoto
In person, Jacob Hashimoto's art moves you just slightly out of the everyday world and into a space where your breath slows down and you feel lighter. It may seem like an overstatement, but we've felt this way whenever we've seen Jacob's installations. We haven't yet made it over to his current show at Rhona Hoffman Gallery. We're saving it for a day when we really need a lift in spirit.
Each sculpture in the exhibition is made from hundreds of folded rice paper and bamboo discs that are woven across a frame. They overflow with pattern, without feeling heavy or crowded.

See them for yourself at Rhona Hoffman Gallery in the West Loop (118 North Peoria Street). The exhibition continues through October 13, 2007.

I absolutely love Jacob's works.....he's brilliant and his art is beautiful. I will be making my way over to the gallery next weekend to take a look and inquire about ownership of one or more of these......pray for me.
Good luck, Keisha. I hope you find something you love.
The Oak Park Public Library owns a stunning piece by Jacob Hashimoto titled "skip skitter start trip vault bounce - and other attempts at flight". The entire permanent art collection is really pretty nice for a public library and worth checking out if you're in the area, especially if you love Hashimoto's work:
