In person, Jacob Hashimoto's art moves you just slightly out of the everyday world and into a space where your breath slows down and you feel lighter. It may seem like an overstatement, but we've felt this way whenever we've seen Jacob's installations. We haven't yet made it over to his current show at Rhona Hoffman Gallery. We're saving it for a day when we really need a lift in spirit. Each sculpture in the exhibition is made from hundreds of folded rice paper and bamboo discs that are woven across a frame. They overflow with pattern, without feeling heavy or crowded.
