- What I Love About My Small Home:
- While we grew up in the same town as children, our cozy apartment is a reflection of the many places we have travelled. With paintings hailing from Tanzania to Paris, and a few DIY projects along the way, we used art to make a big statement in a small space. We love how our blend of styles has served as a great conversation starter for all the large and lively gatherings (believe it or not!) we have hosted in our first year in New York City. Our small space certainly doesn't lack personality!
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Decorating a small apartment becomes even more difficult when it is in the basement. Since the apartment is lacking in natural light, we used pops of color and crisp whites to keep things bright. Another challenge we had to deal with in an apartment with angular walls and odd nooks was finding furniture that was multi-functional without sacrificing style. For example, the ottoman in the living room also serves as a coffee table or additional seating when guests are over. The flea market cabinet we refurbished doubles as an entertainment console and a kitchen pantry. While we sacrificed some luxuries due to space, it forced us to make smart design choices which resulted in a successful collaboration.

Your home is so well thought out................love it!
2 bedrooms in a 325 sq ft apartment? Amazing!
Your home is beautifully decorated. I especially like the 1st bedroom pictured..
I can't believe this is 2 bedrooms in 325 sq. feet! Great job and well thought out. I am in a 1 bedroom that's 425 with lots of weird angles so I know how hard it can be to deal with. Your space is very welcoming and does not look as small as it is at all.
what a beautiful little spot. there is something about it that looks so breezy and comfortable, not at all like it was a struggle to fit things into their little spots or nooks. I especially love the gorgeous lamps on the windowsills in the first bedroom, turning the whole little room into a big glamorous nightstand. gorgeous.
I like the floorplan of your unit and I also like that it is amazingly uncluttered. Nice linens.
You've done a terrific job dealing with tiny rooms and weird angles. I love the colorful living room - lots of personality in a tiny room, but not overwhelming.
I love the tinga tinga print :)
Very welcoming place...love it!
Kudos to you! You did a fantastic job.
This is the first entry I've favourited. I love all the colours and textures.
What great taste....your place seems very happy-making! :)
What are the posters that you have in the hallway and are the actually vintage posters or modern re-prints?
Beautiful apartment! Where did you get the green lamp in the second bedroom?
Normally in feng shui we don't approve of beds up against the wall but Jacqueline's space is so well done that it doesn't matter. Brava!
I love the living room and the bright bedspread! For some reason I can't favorite it, since AT thinks I'm not logged in only for that section.
Kiki, the green lamp is from Anthropologie. Thank you for all of the wonderful comments and keep them coming!
So...when you get tired of the following, give me a call:
The tiger picture over the sofa
That cute blue cube
The giraffe rug
Great pillows on the sofa....and more and more and more...
Seriously, nicely done!
Amazing! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw two bedrooms in such a small space! Nothing looks cramped or cluttered. I like your little kitchen, too. Great decorating and use of space.
I have more wasted space in my place than you have living space.
Great job. Do you hire out your services? I could sure use your creative energies and ideas.
Rjzii, the posters in the hallway are re-prints!
@therealfeen - Which ones are they? They both look familiar, but I'm besides myself trying to figure out where I've seen them before.
Where is that horse print from? The place is amazing and is so well-balanced. Cannot believe there are two bedrooms!
I love this place!
THIS IS THE BEST APARTMENT THAT I HAVE SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree with many of the posters - such great use of a limited space! And I love all the exotic details, it adds a lot of personality to the home. It all looks very well coordinated! :)
Littleboots- the horse print is from HomeGoods believe it or not!
Rjzii- the two posters are: martini & rossi vermouth Martini and Cognac Monnet
I love this Apt.!!!! The BESTTT!!!!!!!!
Amazing use of space...civilized living in a bright and inviting environment. CHIC!
ooooh I love the horse pic!
Seriously...this is small and it's cool! Super impressed with it having 2 bedrooms. The use of space is perfect and everything looks like it has its place. Love the bed with the two lamps on the window sill, it looks very cozy.
Cool apt. Bet that's not the only Stallion that has been in that bedroom
Love the layout of the apartment!
I LOVE this layout. I think I'd love it at this size or on a larger scale. Someone put a lot of thought into that design, and you've made beautiful use of it! What a home!
I tried to think of an original observation but it seems they've all been made already. That being said, TWO (count 'em, 2!) bedrooms in 325sf - GIT OUT!!!!! And the place doesn't look cramped in the least; I am just floored!. Also love the jaguar art and the sofa pillows, and the horse, and, and, and... . All-in-all, the smallest coolest I've seen yet in this or earlier contests.
Before reading all the other comments - all I could think was "Finally, Small and Cool"! Quirky layout is fun and the textiles and art go a long way in telling the story of who you are.
Awesome apartment!! ;-)
Amazing, beautiful, inspiring!!
LOVE it... such a great space! I love the interesting combinations of textures/colors/prints. I wouldn't have thought of some of them myself. Very impressed.
You must have picked really great bulbs (I obviously know nothing about that sort of thing) to make this apartment have a "natural" light feel...totally fooled me!
Do you know who the artist is of the painting over the couch? It reminds me of an E. Box painting I have.
dap
2007COBALT - The painting is a Tinga Tinga painting from Tanzania, the artist's name is "Akily." I carried mine back on the plane with me but you can check Tinga Tinga paintings out online - I believe there are sites you can purchase original works from.
I think your space is the most challenging among all other contesters and yet you did a great job of making personal statement to the space--- the space was totally transformed from a weird angled and small space to an interesting and dramatic story telling space, effortlessly!! You sure should WIN!!
Well, that's all you need! Way to go, making such a small place work!
Wait, this place is adorable, tasteful, isn't overcrowded with a ton o kitsch, and only has 247 votes?
Perhaps you meant to click on this good looking home as opposed to the other unimaginative spaces that have 500 votes?
Love everything about your place! So interesting and different. The art work is fantastic.
Beautiful ! Great use of color and space - you girls are so talented and clever - You've got my vote for a truly wonderful city home --
Nzuri nyumbani na tinga tinga. Great use of space and colours! I hope you win!
<3 the Tinga Tinga print!! Your whole apartment is very clever and cool.
Adore the ottoman, especially the print -- where'd ya git it?
Mon_Truc, We made the ottoman cover and I believe the fabric I chose was a Duralee
