- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love the location. I'm in the basement and at the back of my apartment building which allows for an outdoor patio space and a cool place during the hot summer months. I love my apartment's layout. Many small spaces are so chopped up which actually makes a space seem smaller. After a two and half month search, I found this apartment in a neighborhood that I desired. I work long weird hours and I just wanted to create a space that was warm, masculine, and comfortable to come home home. I am on a tight budget and I love that 90% of my furniture and accessories are from flea markets, tag sales, dumpster dives, and thrift stores.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- The biggest challenge living in a small space is lack of storage. So I have had to make sure that most things do double duty and edit. If I buy someting new then something has to leave, so I must decide if the impulse buy is really worth an item leaving my space. My other big challenge was living in a small basement space. So my ceilings are much lower, very little natural light, and feeling a little cave-like. The white tiled floors helps brighten up the space. I have painted some walls in a dark color to help trick the eye into added space and the dark colors help warm my apartment. Finally, I created a flow from the front door and through the apartment, which makes the space seem larger than its actual 450 sq. feet.
