Name: Jan
Location: East Village - New York, New York
After spending the past eight years with all white walls, I wanted my new space to have lots of color. It's a small studio, so I only painted half of the walls to create the illusion that the alcove is more of a separate room.
"Poolside Blue" was a bold choice, but I love the Caribbean feel it brings to the apartment. Living compactly without clutter means everything has a home in a drawer or decorative box, from extra pens to books to house keys.
Thanks, Jan!

Shaw's Original Fir...
I seriously love everything about this space. Can I move in?
What great bones your studio has! You really brought everything together with that wild color. Few things could tempt me to move back into a small studio space again, but...
I like the white bedroom in juxtaposition with the blue room. Very crisp edges.
It really works. Especially with those pops of red. :) Makes me smile.
Really nice studio...Kind of tiring of all of the blander places I've been seeing on this site, your studio is very refreshing and charming...Also looks like someone actually uses this space.....
Nicely done! Really delinates the space.
I have a bedroom with that EXACT wall color, and a very similar tone of hardwood floor. I, uh, do not love it. This is provoking all sorts of thinky thoughts. The expanses of white, the plants, the glass and wire... interesting. Gorgeous work!
That's one gorgeous color, the whole studio looks fantastic.
Love the turquoise and you are so right that it divides your space into bedroom and livingroom. I agree that your space feels lived in, some what whimsical and fun. Really nice job.
Beautiful studio. Love the color. Love the furniture.
This is brillant. Love the whole thing.
What a fantastic space! Love the crisp blue and white with warm orange/brass tones and shiny surfaces here and there. The large plants on wiry stands make it look lived in and really set the place apart. Love this!
table is upside down...
Beautiful! Full tour, please.
Beautiful! My roommate and I painted the living and dining room in my first apartment this color. It came out so differently than I had expected and I think I even cried a little the first day because I hated it so much. For weeks I felt like I was living in an aquarium. But somewhere along the line, my feelings changed, and by the time we moved out I was crying because I knew I would miss that beautiful apartment with the aqua walls. This post made me so happy thinking about that first little home of mine...
Wow that color is so bold but some how works so well in your place. Congrats on picking out such a stunner.
Love it! Such a great use of color to break up the space. Very cool.
I LOVE your studio! Where did you get the cabinet, chairs and table???
Turquoise can be tricky, but you did it right. Very nice looking place.
Oh this is really nice and cosy. I love your place, very inspiring. Thank you for sharing!! ^^
Does anyone know the name of the plant in the corner?
Lovely!
Love the mirror next to the dining table! Along with the color strategy you've used to delineate you living and sleeping areas, I think the mirror placement has done a fantastic job at delineating a dining space. I think I might have to steal that idea!
This apartment looks great! I LOVE the bright, bold color! My fav part... the white table with TONS of eccentric flair around it!
DESIGNGRATISLONDON -The plant in the corner is a Swiss Cheese Plant.
Love the turquoise & the way the bed area is separated. Looks so much better than many studios where you can't get away from the bed in the room....
is that a platner coffee table? I think it might be upside down.
This place is gorgeous.
I wish the studio I used to live in was set up like this, we might still be living there today! When you walked in the first thing you saw was the bed, this at least gives you a sense of a separate bedroom space, and if you really wanted to cover up the bedroom you could always use a curtain (but that's totally not necessary!). Anyhow, brilliantly done...love your eclectic & fun style...kudos!
thanks!
This is beautiful. I'm feeling very curious about your kitchen!
It does look like your studio has an above-average layout; it doesn't look like just a square box type of space. In any case, I LOVE the turquoise walls and the furniture; great job.
I am also a fan of B. Moore's Poolside Blue paint...I painted my living room with it 2 years ago. It took me almost a year with a paint chip taped to a wall before I committed to it but I still love it every single day! I also had to break up the room with a creamy, vanilla white wall because we looked green on one side of the room! The floor is covered with a light sea grass rug and and we use more color through art and fabrics, with a few black accent pieces.
Jan, you did a fabulous job with the color AND you have a great studio to work with! I really like the way you set up the alcove...It's perfect!
Beautiful color and great finish on the paint job!!! Well done-that saturated color must be wonderful in all light!
