This super clean desktop was created by Jared Schmidt and he was able to get rid of most of the pesky wires. His desk also has this dramatic lighting, which is really interesting and gives the whole workstation a nice diffuse glow. How was it done? Read more to find out.
The most poignant part of Jared's workstation is the dramatic lighting that he added to it. And before you ask, no, he didn't use an LEDs. His lighting solution gives the frosted glass top of his desk this nice glow. He actually mounted four IKEA Lagra spots to each desk leg.
Surprisingly, Jared uses a Mac Mini as his main computer at home. His MacBook Pro stays in its bag most of the time. It's synced using a combination of MobileMe, Dropbox, and Simplenote.
Hardware
-MacBook Pro
-Mac Mini
-Acer X203W 20" monitor
-Logitech Z-5 Speakers
-Bose QC2
-Apple Bluetooth Keyboard
-Apple iPhone 3GS 32GB
-Logitech Performance Mouse MX (works on glass desks)
-Wacom Intuos 9×12 (stashed under the desk)
-4×IKEA Lagra spots
-IKEA Vika Glasholm glass table top
-IKEA Vika Artur pine legs
-Banana holder used for headphones
Jared changed from the Magic Mouse to the Logitech Performance mouse MX because it works on glass. This allowed him to get rid of a mousepad. All in all, it's a very sleek and cordless destkop, something we always like to see. The lighting definitely sets it apart from other workstations.

I like the nana hook as a headphone stand. That's pretty awesome.
I have fully wired setups that looks cleaner and better compiled than this. Even my sisters desk is cleaner and less cluttered.
I do like the ligtning as decoration, looks nice. However it's not enough to get some work or gaming done. Eye strain within 10 minutes ! I also like how things move between shots, as if no thought whatsoever was put in this photoshoot!
I almost forgot to mention the nice wires on the wall. You made a trip to IKEA to get spotlights, but didn't care enough to de-route the wires? That was the whole reason I figured I should give a comment.
Criticism is my topmost hobby btw, take it like a man :)
Is there any heating issue because of the spots?
The first thing I saw in this pic was the massive tangled cord in the corner. *Pushes monitor out window* I feel better now. Try again with the "mostly cordless" posts!
@mian: The bulbs used in the lights are 7w Glöda reflector bulbs. They generate an unnoticeable amount of heat and are cool to the touch after hours of running, so heat is not an issue with this setup.
@stoff3r: The lighting provides enough light to easily read by without being annoying. The photos used by the author span from May 2010 to September 2010 – it would be expected that things moved as pictures were individually snapped over a five month period.
@stoff3r, JustBekky: Re Cable: The wire on the wall is a high-gauge, 6' cable for a HVAC in-wall unit that sits about 3" above where the photos cut off. If you have suggestions on how to "hide" such a cable without using a ghastly cover box or raceway or putting a hole in the wall (I'm renting and cannot do the latter), I'm open to suggestions. I haven't found a sensible solution yet. The other wire going down is the power line for my power strip below the desk to power everything. It is the only power outlet in the vicinity of the desk.
Is that a air-to-air AC? Well it's difficult then. Sollution would be to coil op the cord in a nice way, organized stuff allways looks better. And maybe stretch the cord to be totally straight along the corner of the wall. Buying longer cords sometimes helps routing the cables to other places. As you're renting, I wouldn't care much though, as you're out of there in a few years :)
Indeed, it is air-to-air AC. I might try the straightening idea - many thanks as I hand not thought to try dropping it down. I've got a few other ideas I've found on the 'net since this posting. Thanks for the constructive feedback; I do appreciate it.
