Name: Jason & John
Location: Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn
Size: 2,800 square feet, Tudor-style single family home
Years lived in: 4 years
"Green is our neutral," explains Jason, as my jaw drops. Everything in Jason and John's house that can have color does. And every color is saturated. I can't stop smiling and sometimes I have to laugh out loud for the sheer joy of it.

John and Jason have a long history and familiarity with design. After years of working as editors for major design magazines, they have joined forces to form an interior design firm. Their home is their test lab.
Four years ago, John and Jason decided they wanted more living/entertaining space. Their realtor, aware of their limited budget, took the couple to an architecturally significant Brooklyn neighborhood to see a Tudor house that hadn't been lovingly cared for over the years but hadn't been destroyed either. Over its century long life, the house did not get subdivided into multiple units and, other than in the kitchen, no owner took the time or interest to make major changes. John and Jason appreciated the original layout and saw its 'English Country House' potential. After fifteen months worth of plumbing, electrical work, a new roof, new windows, the restoration of the existing moulding, a gut renovation of the kitchen, and a complete build-out of the raw attic and basement spaces, they moved in.
In the four years since, furniture has come and gone, slipcovers have dressed and undressed vintage sun room couches, lamps have been custom-shaded and 're-shaded' with an ever rotating cadre of fabrics, window treatments have been swapped around the house or replaced outright, and pillows have been plentiful but always on short term residency. Rather than experiment on their clients' homes, John and Jason are happy to explore patterns, the mixing of colors, and the handiwork of upholsterers on home turf. As Jason put it, he and John like to "throw bologna against the wall and see what sticks."
As broad reaching interior designers, John and Jason are well versed in the high end as well as the low. Their home is a seamless blend of garage sale finds altered to their precise specifications alongside limited edition pieces, expensive fabrics, and mass-produced products. Every object, regardless of its origin, is treated equally — recognized for its important role in contributing to the final vision! These are two really talented guys who aren't afraid to design out loud. As professionals, they take whimsy very seriously. John and Jason's efforts, witnessed here, should put the final nail in the coffin of beige as a fall-back design solution. This home is simply awe-inspiring.
NOTE: There is just too much of John and Jason's masterpiece to cover in one post. Today's slide show includes the living room, guest bedroom and guest bath. Parts 2 and 3 of Jason and John's home walks through their den, dining room, and master bedroom suite. And check out their kitchen on thekitchn.com.

Apartment Therapy Survey
Style: We wanted to create something of a British country house feeling in the city, a place that showcases eclectic influences but feels like it’s been lived in for dozens of years. There are patterns everywhere and gobs of color and lots of whimsy: The goal was to keep the eye constantly engaged and entertained. And comfort is king: This is a house where you can put your feet up and relax.
Inspiration: Nancy Lancaster. Auntie Mame’s Beekman Place apartment. The gardens at Hidcote. The Beverly Hills Hotel coffee shop. Manhattan’s Indochine restaurant. The film, The Women (the orginal — not the remake). Dorothy Draper. John Fowler’s hunting lodge. Bern’s Steak House. The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Tony Duquette. Clearwater, Florida’s sadly departed Kapok Tree Restaurant.
Favorite Element: The comfort. The wallpaper that covers nearly every square inch of the place — including many ceilings. And the fireplace that we have going all winter long.
Biggest Challenge: The living room was awkward thanks to the traffic pattern, so we couldn’t use rugs. Our solution was to paint the floor with green-and-white stripes, and that pulled the whole space together.
What Friends Say: Our friends love it: They come all the way from Manhattan for our dinner parties (and on multiple occasions to boot!). We get “fun!” a lot and “I love the color and patterns!” quite a bit, too. Jason’s mom — more of a Calvin Klein minimalist — calls our house the “knick-knack shack.”
Biggest Embarrassment: None. Any “mistake” can be tweaked or re-painted or propped or slipcovered. (Although I almost once Be-Dazzled our duvet, but then I thought twice.)
Proudest DIY: We are super handy, so we are always changing out light fixtures and painting. We look at our home as a design lab, so it is constantly in a state of flux. We landscaped our backyard ourselves — including the installation of some 20-foot birch trees that we had to drag down an alley and over a wall.
Biggest Indulgence: The wallpaper that covers every square inch. And the custom-made lampshades and window treatments that we are constantly switching out.
Best Advice: Be bold or you just may grow mold. Or, put a smile on your style.
Dream Source: World Market mixed with a Marrakesh soukh. Or style guru Marian McEvoy’s storage unit.

Sprout Side Table
I'd like to see more but can't get past the stupid Walmart popup in the middle of the House Tour Photos.
Perhaps you should have saved this one for St. Patrick's day!
Wow! I'm loving this so much.
Any of these shots would have been a great "Guess the decade" post :)
This could have been a craptastic disaster but you guys completely managed to make it work! Everything from the rhinestones on the wallpaper to the fantastic moulding to the multiple fabrics on the furniture is just amazing. I feel like I need my own post just to comment on everything that I love. So I'll just say job well done and I can't wait for part deux.
it's a lot of look but i love it. really stylish. i'm in love with that yellow etagere in the bedroom.
The painted parquet floor is amazing!
When you want to go for then go for it and here they went for it.
This must of been so much fun and that you treat it like a lab is great because there is no fear in that approach.
You guys really pulled it off, love all the details must be something in person.
What color is the paint in the living room? You just could of not selected a better pale blue for those greens and yellows.
Wow. I feel like my eyes have just been on a tropical vacation... thank you for providing an antidote to the white snow and gray skies outside my window. All your bold choices have added up to a great success!
Whoa this house is amazing! Talk about escaping to your happy place... this place looks like it would be happy all the time! I think if Lilly Pulitzer had an interior designer love child this would be its house!
Where is the flowered bedspread (or duvet) from?
Totally not my style, but at the same time you guys rock. Over the top but fantastic at the the same time. It would be fun to be a guest in your home.
Fabulous. Not my style at all but so well done I think I could live in it and love it. That might not sound like high praise but from a minimalist like me, it is!
This is about as far as I could get away from my own style and you'd have to put a gun to my head to have that much lime green in my eyesight....but this house is fabulous.
Jason and John are so COOL. I wish they were my friends--I want some of their gutsy fabulousness to rub off on me. It might not be everyone's taste, but these guys know what they're doing and they're doing it right. Such talent. (I'm on my way right now, by the way, to find my conch shell so I can put it in the corner of my bathtub. I'm not kidding.) Seriously, that guest bedroom (not to mention the linen closet!) has me smiling from ear to ear. I can't wait for tomorrow!
Loved the bathroom so much! The whole place is great and happy-making, but that bathroom . . . damn! I want!
I love this--this is one of the most original places I've seen on this site. Perfect taste.
holly macaroni!!! I love every detail, every corner, every fabric....
wooowww what an amazing place.
best house tour in a LONG time. total awesomeness!
What an absolute delight! And what a relief from current (or any) design orthodoxy. It is such a joy to behold an environment that reflects genuine and unique personality. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I love the fabric on the loveseat in the guest bedroom (photos 25 and 26). Can you tell me what it is and where it's from?
To boldly go where no one has gone before...your home is a riotous, joyful, and beautiful display of color and prints. I know this neighborhood and you guys are a secret garden. Bravo.
this place is absolutely over the top. your place is awesome and bravo to your boldness. that said, i would absolutely go cuckoo for cocoa puffs if i lived here. i don't even think i could be over for a cocktail party without needing to be check into McLean, Dorthea Dix, or somewhere of the sort.
This is wonderful, but do you get tired of living in a show home? I feel I'd love to just take a few ideas from it and incorporate it into my home, such as the bombastic floral/plant wallpapers. Congratulations!
There's so much to look at. It's unique, alive with color. I love it; gives me ideas for my dull apartment. I can't paint walls but after viewing your home, I think I have a plan. Thanks
I would have loved to vote on a place like this in the color contest! Gorgeous, fun and very live-able.
I can't get enough .... And the gray and white armoire is just stunning
Amazing!
And their cute green sweaters, too!
So many awesome things, but I adore the purple art piece and adjacent lampshade in the corner window of the living room. Origins?
This could be a masters class in pattern mixing. Well Done!
And I think any color can be a neutral if you deem it so :)
It is too much for me. Nowhere for my eyes to rest, except the tile in the bathroom. Still, I like the green, just too much pattern.
F'in glorious
Go big or go home (to your boring house that isn't lime green)
Oh my heck I just squealed and giggled! What a lovely home! Love the color and all the detail.
the rhinestones on the wallpaper really inspired me. Love the saturated color, just not into the patterns but bravo anyway!
I should hate this. I love this. This is so fun and fresh and modern. This is the exact opposit of Eddie Ross' style, in which he uses some of the same elements, but strangely comes out with a more old fashioned result. I would love to curl up with a cup of coffee and a book here.
Gloriously exorbitant! I love the house and the guts of its inhabitants.
What a breath of spring on this dreary day. It reminds me of the excitement of opening up a brand new big box of fresh sharp crayolas. Really want that antique love seat with the leafy upholstery.
I am completely overwhelmed—in the most wonderful way!
Ditto on wanting to know the fabric on the guest bedroom settee.
And a vote for: I personally don't think I could live there, but it is fantastic nonetheless!
Masters of pattern. If I tried this, my house would look like the discount section at Fabricland. :)
Now I can see it!
I agree w/ the others: This is complete fabulousness.
So much inspiration here - the details make it all incredibly special.
Q: The Greek Key motif on the glass coffee table:
Did it come that way, was it professionally done or was it something that J & J created themselves?
I am so in love...can you please do this to my house?
In my dream world not only would I have a house like this, but I would have decorated it, as well. That will never happen, so instead I will bookmark this and stare at it every day and pretend. This is so completely fabulous and wonderful. I don't know how it happens that this house has SO much going on, but it doesn't feel overwhelming, or how it is so different than what I think I want my apartment and future house to look, but I love it so much and could totally be happy here. Also, green is my favorite color! You both obviously need to come decorate my house (2 years from now). :)
Love everything about these fabulous fellas and their home, what a joyful place they've created. I have two burning questions: Who is the artist of the man's portrait in View # 10 and main view of living room? What is the source for the kitchen cabinets?
This is one of the best home tours AT's served up. Bravo for celebrating their originality and verve. Thanks!
Holy Guacamole, Batman!
absolutely stunning
This house makes me dizzy. I love it but would go crazy if I lived there.
Such a pity they weren't more daring, huh? (that's sarcasm for those of you not tuned in to it).
Great job guys! I love seeing what other people are capable of creating whether it is of my own personal style or not... Good design speaks for itself... Yours speaks volumes!
This is the house where Spring lives, awesome!
It reminds me a bit of Glenn Close's performance in "Dangerous Liasons".
That bathroom... even the toilet is beautiful!
Love, love, love. I'm such a fan of mixing pattern and color. This space is so well executed and really inspirational. Well done!
Good lord, this is fabulous. I love everything about it, but particularly the crewel bedspread and crewel-esque wallpaper in the bedroom. They totally remind me of my grandmother, who had excellent taste and a gorgeous house.
Dey, the fabric on the seat in the guest bedroom is by Joseph Frank:
http://www.svenskttenn.se/textiles.asp?LangId=2&Cat=16
It's one of my favorite fabrics!
This is the most delightful home I've ever seen. I love it! I sooooo want to spend time there and hang out! I'm bookmarking the photos for personal reference. :)
These guys know what they're doing obviously. I guess if you're going to be a "maximalist" you might as well just throw caution out the window and go full steam ahead. And I bet it's a lot harder than just tossing a little bit of everything into a space - you really have to have a keen eye.
I'm going to take some inspiration from this without embracing its full aesthetic. For me that means being less afraid of using some pattern and mixing it up.
Props for the painted floor and the gray armoire in pic #27.
I love it! My husband would not -- not that our house would look nearly that fabulous if he did, but it would be nice to have the option to go all out. I'm very envious of your ability to commit to a color and use variations of it everywhere. If I could do the same, I feel like it would make decorating our home much easier. *sigh* I guess a girl can still dream...
Really lovely job. Thank you for sharing.
You know, most of this stuff I would hate on it's own, but everything together makes it work in a delicious, insane way.
A one in a million example of more is better.
Fabulous. Thanks so much for sharing your home.
Your home is a breath of fresh air...makes me feel like its springtime! Love all the green! (even your sweaters were green! hehe!) Anyway, your home is fabulous and I can't stop going back and looking at all the photos. Thanks for the inspiration...green is becoming my new favorite color!
This house reminds me of the enormous excessive goo-covered ice cream sundae monstrosities served at Serendipity in New York: it looks delicious from across the room, but I wouldn't want to eat one! There's an aggressive quality in these rooms that I think would be difficult to live with, but bravo to the boys for having the stones to really 'go there' without ending up in Grannyland (with Eddie Ross).
To Jill--
These photos are GORGEOUS.
And to "the boys": This shouldn't work... but totally does. Fun, sweet and colorful without being juvenile.
"years of working as editors for major design magazines.."
It shows. : )
Nice tour, thank you!!
I feel like Alice in Wonderland and I just went down the rabbit hole.... That's a compliment. Well done on creating a new world inside of your walls.
WOW! The Kapok Tree brings back memories. As a kid, no trip to Florida was complete without a souvenir Kapok Tree hurricane glass. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Two words come to mind....bold and fearless! The incredible use of colors and patterns put together in unconventional ways. That really takes guts and a great eye! There's so much going on...but it all ties in together without looking like a mismatched mess. The bedroom is really impressive...the use of several patterns...even on the ceiling! I could never pull that off. I admire anyone who has that talent. Again...incredible!
Okay, I'm totally LOLing over this tour. But I'm laughing with Jason & John, not at them! Important distinction.
Totally original and perfectly executed. Just lovely.
I hate to be a negative nancy but..... when I started the slideshow I fell in love. The further I got through the slideshow, the more and more I knew that I couldn't stand the home. Without wishing to be rude, that guest bedroom is just too much. The excessive use of patterns.... it looks like a cluttered attic... not the calm, relaxed atmosphere I assume most people would wish for sleeping. I'm sure they're lovely people but this decor just isn't for me.
Great advice! I love your painted floors, bathroom and kitchen.
Of all the rooms, the bathroom is my fave. Maybe it's that wonderful leafy wallpaper, or maybe the warm looking yellow tile or maybe the generous marble surround on the tub. I could soak in that tub for a long time. That room is perfect!
Great House, but what I really love is the 50 or so Walmart ads that pop up almost over every photograph. Way to go AT, It's good for your economy to have all those impressions popping up directly over the images we are trying to look at.
HOLY COW!
Even items that I don't usually care for I LOVE LOVE in this home!
It's so Victorian, yet modern, fresh, and fun.
Do people NOT have pop-up blockers engaged in their browsers?
I've never had any ad, ever, pop up here at AT.
I grew up in Miami, and this place reminds me of the way houses looked when I was little. I love it!
what a talent you have! the style is bold, but the mixing technique is so subtle. your spaces are so intricate and thoughtful, it gives me pause. to try and recreate it would be like following a rabbit down a hole. i am just going to soak it up with my subconscious and know that it will infuse my own sense of style.
The chair in photo 10 is the best thing in the whole house. I want one.
While looking at this tour, I imagined that this was my (imaginary) super cool eccentric grandma's house. I would invite my friends over to her place just for the chance to listen to her strange stories and stare at all of her crazy collections. Then, my awesome imaginary grandma would make us tea and cookies in her full length floral moo moo wearing her blue eyeshadow, bright red lipstick and horn rimmed glasses... and and everything would be right in the world.
I can bake. When shall I move my stuff in?
Also, source for the carpet in slide #27, pretty please...and if you're looking for a literary agent, call me. Let's do lunch.
Beautiful...
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW! WOW.
I laughed at a previous comment about how the person would go cooko for cocoa puffs if they lived here. I too would go batty, but this is just so awesome. Bedazzled walls! Seriously? You have managed to step so very far out of the box and make it work! Bravo. Most interesting thing on this site in a long time. Such a breath of vibrant, knock your socks of air!
i really just love this. one of my favorite (if not THE favorite) house tours on AT. thanks for sharing your home! looking forward to the rest of the rooms.
With 89 comments, not sure you need another. Obviously a lot of readers were impacted by the design. The guys have a great sense of humor and you can tell they are confident with their style choices. They even chose to be photographed wearing green sweaters! I love patterns and have always used stripes, checks, florals together in a room. The wallpaper reminds me of William Morris designs but is used too extensively for my eye. I kept looking for the calm setting hoping I'd at least find it in the bedroom. No, but wait, there it is at last; the yard!
I guess I'm in the minority when I say that I don't like this place at all...it is WAAAAAAAAY too much for me! I do like their matching sweaters though.
I just love love love it! the attention to detail is just fabulous!
Please can you tell me where you purchased those gorgeous green bamboo chairs in your garden, and that beautiful yellow oriental bookcase?
Your bathroom is stunning, it looks like it should be in Raffles Singapore.
love love the stripe floor!! So very Alice in Wonderland feel.
Now I really have spring fever!
I'm LOVING these colours, so fresh, and the flooring, where can I get floor like that?
I'm teetering on that thin line between love and hate. I'm a minimalist by heart, but I can't deny that this house is special and the owners/designers are talented. It takes skill to mix patterns, colors and furniture scales like that. It's nice (as an interior designer myself) to see fellow designers take risks like this and pull it off.
too much going on in the house....not loving it at all! makes me feel dizzy!
Dazzling! I want play too.
Susan Windsor Jones
It's an updated take on my great-grandmother's old farmhouse. Just beautiful.
Crazy creative and brave!! Well done.
I also have the same green Thibaut pattern as on the daybed. Did you have the fireplace screen made from the deer motif in the fabric? It's fab!
i want to live in that bedroom, as it looks before picture 34. Picture 34 shows the wall opposite the bed and I felt that wall was too much. Maybe leave that dresser and the frames on the wall, but bring in those awesome chairs from picture 10 in to flank both sides.
Regardless, I want that room's bench, curtains, roman shades, rug, bed pillows...8-)
Even on their own, bright colors, mixed patterns, and lots of tchotchkes always set me on edge, make me tense... but this... this is delightful! Even if I lived next door I would jump at the chance to stay in that guest room!
Where do I start.... Rhinestones on the wallpaper - glad you showed it - sounds tacky - looks very unique - liked it! LOVED the kitchen wallpaper. I liked every patterned piece you had - the fabrics were amazing!
If you ever decide to get ride of the bench in the guest room - I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands!!
This just makes me happy. I never would've been so bold to create this, but just the same I'm in love. It feels fresh! Thanks for sharing something with a twist instead of a C&B or West Elm catalog!
http://finehowaboutyou.blogspot.com/
You had me at the rhinestone wallpaper. This is crazy genius fantastical.
I like what you are trying, but you need to watch your scale and formality of the fabric. Just because you like the fabric and it has green or some other color you have in the room does not mean you use it. Edit so your beautiful furnishings show through. All I see is pattern and color, I don't really see all the wonderful pieces and details. For example, your two side chairs in the living room would have much better impact if you left the seat cushion the same as the rest of the fabric, green with contrasting piping. I love your spunk but really think about your pattern choices. If you have to talk the piece into the room, it doesn't fit.
Love this little green machine. There is so much to see I would never get bored.
Oh I gosh I am so covetous, green with envy, etc. Amazing textiles, great mix of scales, perfect blend of current with classic.
You two are mad scientists of design in your laboratory. I couldn't live with it myself, but I love that the space exists in the world. Very cool :)
Wow. This place is fantastic. Bold and beautiful.
I don't think I would want to live there (a lot of the furniture fabric is too "Del Boca Vista" for me), but I would certainly love to visit and stay in that guestroom a few days. :)
Dying for the owl lamp in the guest room and for the chance to decorate a little girl's room so I can bedazzle her wallpaper.
i'm not a fan of the color but this is amazing.
how do you sleep in that bedroom? there is so much going on that there is NO calmness at all!
too much color, too much pattern, just simply TOO MUCH
i guess if you wanna live in a giant green buca di beppo it's great....
i couldn't finish the slide show, i got bored. it's busy an bold, but all the same...
don't understand everyone falling all over themselves over it.
It's delightfully daring and fresh in a vintage way. Go team green! I love that it doesn't look like anything else, they took a risk and it looks playful and fun. Well done.
This house looks like an explosion of . . . something. I don't know. Too much for me.
I happen to be a particular fan of green, but no one could possibly help being overcome with delight at these pictures.
This house tour is so NOT my style but I love it. I wish I had a small piece of their talent. I have a pretty floral wallpaper in my bathroom, peach tile with blue trim tile and I can't get past white curtains! Love all of the green. Great job guys.
I love it! I feel like if I spent an hour or so there, I'd want to go out and paint a picture or something. It's vibrant and fun! Stimulating!
I'm getting flashbacks to the little old ladies houses I went to as a kid for tea and biscuits. Very entertaining, and in Lefferts Gardens! - Very unexpected!!
I respect the enthusiasm behind the decor even though it isn't what I would gravitate to.
Would certainly love to know where that living room table is from..anyone know?
saer
http://cravenmaven.wordpress.com
I love this! Could not possibly live there, but visiting would be fun. Wouldn't be able to sleep in that guest bedroom, though - WAY too much pattern for me.
I like your fearlessness and attitude that this is your "lab"
I would like to see the garden when it's not dormant.
Also, where did you get the fabulous tulip-lily type lamp in the living room?
This is one house tour where I actually wanted to see more vignettes :)
Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL! Such inspiration! I'm breathless! What a thrill to see something so bold. I can't wait to see part B.
Only problem I'd have with living in this house is how much time I'd lose just staring at the pretty things around me. If I were a guest in that bedroom, you'd never get me out. That wallpaper!
You guys rocked it! Keep up the great work! Love it all, especially the entry wallpaper.
Green is my neutral too!
and I have to repeat what everybody has said: WOW!
I live in Lefferts Garden too. I love this.
Best of luck to you both. I'm sure that you'll be mad successful.
Not so much "English country" as Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot ...
Wouldn't have painted the parquet flooring.
Surprise me.
Delight me.
Teach me something. Ah! That's the secret of mixing patterns!
Inspire me.
I want to respect the owner's EYE. That they saw something that the average person might have missed. That they have their own point of view.
Make me feel something. Even if that something is a little "too" for me. Too sterile. Too bright. Too happy. Too crazy. Too gloomy. Too mixed-up.
That's what I want in a tour.
This tour is ALL that and more. Absolutely fearless use of color and pattern. It makes you feel something as soon as you walk in. It's a "show home" that totally feels liveable and that's hard to do.
There's nothing wrong with a busy guest room. You're a guest? In someone ELSE'S home? You're livin' in their world , baby. And it's just color and pattern, people! It's not like they've installed a mechanical rooster or the Eye of Sauron above the bed!
And the intensity of the arrangement nixing the individual beauty of the pieces? That is clearly a design choice that they have embraced. You gotta sit down and soak it all in. I'm sure then, things jump out at you. Some folks like to showcase pieces -- most do, I think. I think that's a sort of catalog strategy. Freaking hats off the folks who do it different.
One of my favorite tours, evah! Good pick, editors!
This house just makes me smile - beautiful!
jason and john, you guys are so talented. i hope i marry someone rich 2nd time around so you guys can decorate my new digs!
John and Jason - you're amazing!
I'm in love with your bathroooooom! It is amazing. A lamp over the toilet? Over the top.
This by far is one of my all time favorite house tours! I love it all...parquet floor, wallpaper, pillows, contrasting patterns, colors, vignettes, lamp shades. I could go on & on! Boy, I can't wait for Part II! Fantastic job, guys! And, here I thought I was the only one who loved to layer and layer and layer! It's great to see I'm not alone in my over the top decorating world! I would love to feature your home on my blog after the other Parts are featured. My readers would love the sheer color of it all! Please let me know if that is okay. Keeping my fingers crossed while I wait to hear from you.
http://girlwhimsy.blogspot.com
Bravo! Bravo!
It's bold, fun, personal, creative, beautiful, interesting, unique...so amazing. The bathroom is esp. fabulous.
This house tour made my day. Thanks!
What a delightful surprise! I'm a few days behind on reading my AT posts, and to think I might have missed this! All time great post!
All I can say is "WOW". This is beautiful.
Absolutely fabulous!! I especially love the living room. Well done gentlemen!
Just amazing! Pure talent!
not my style at all but so well done and so beautiful, colorful, harmonious - i would be delighted if this was my home!
amazing job!
The livingroom and kitchen are beautiful! The entire apartment is fresh looking. Not so crazy about the wallpaper on the celing of the bedroom, it closes it in too much for me. Fantastic place though!
WOW!
The guest bedroom reminds me of a present I once got. I love the bedspread and the wallpaper. ... like decadent wrapping paper on a soft, cushy bed of dreams!
The only thing I'm having trouble with is the painted floor. Why go through all the trouble of bricking your fireplace facade in a parquet-mimicking design if you paint over your parquet?
The house has great bones, and you've used them well. It looks like the perfect place for a refreshing escape from city life... in the city! I love the green, too.
This is superb! How do you like the neighborhood? We were considering it a while back but were discouraged by the commute.
Gang:
John and I are thrilled with the feedback... Wow! We are over the moon. Hmm, let's see if I can address a few comments:
-We painted our parquet floor because it was ruined when our contractors forgot to cover a hole in the ceiling when it rained (and we were out of town). We had to patch the original parquet and paint it because the patches stood out like sore thumbs.
-The ceiling in the guest bedroom really isn't claustrophobic, it opens the room--even though the vine pattern can be a little Audrey-ish from Little Shop of Horrors (perhaps a scare technique to make sure my parents only shack up every now and then).
-The house really is very soothing and doesn't come across as too busy in person (I swear). It really does engage the eye, though. I'll be curious what you all think in Part II (thank you, Jill!).
-We LOVE Lefferts Gardens, a terrific, very neighborly place perfectly situated by Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
I have been traveling, so more anon.

They have some beautiful pieces! But, I have to say that the overall look is just a tad overwhelming to the eye. If it were my space, I would tone it down just a couple of notches. : )
Just when I fantasize about how I could get my house on Apt Therapy, I come across a home like this that just puts my fantasies to shame. Wow! I'm so impressed with your home.
aweekinparis - I agree, this house was in a magazine. I remember the kitchen tiles and the monkey wallpaper. I even searched through a bunch this weekend trying to figure it out, but couldn't find it.
I love this house!
Reminds me of my grandmother's apartment back in the 70's, when she instilled in me the appreciation of good shoes and a stiff Shirley Temple.
John and Jason are rather accomplished interior designers. Their work has appeared in many shelter mags, and this house in Cottage Living and Domino (both before they folded, of course). In other words, the place SHOULD be gorgeous. It was my impression that apartmenttherapy generally showcased homes of non-professional designers, but the real deal is always a treat.
Thank you for sharing... fabulous home!
And you only have to meet them once to know these guys are as warm, beautiful, and fun to be around as their home!
Guys, your place is a treasure for home interior and a huge inspiration for all of us that we love mix and matching.
I hope you to live the perfect life and be always that creative.
I m so glad you shared this with us!

Love the colors. Love the ceilings. Love the banana tree wallpaper. Love everything.
Best apartment ever! I am so incredibly inspired. You guys are my heroes! If only my future maxi-pad can be this fabulous!
I love the chair with the fabric of the veiled ladies (Slide 10). I'm dying to know where that fabric is from, I'd make a whole couch out of it.
insanity...in a good way. and an obvious labor of love. heart the jewels on the wall and in love with all of the imaginative mixing going on in your home...i want to copy something but can't figure out where to begin...
I have a headache; I need a nap...
Nice shout out to Lefferts Gardens. Will you guys please design & open a coffee shop/design shop or restaurant in the neighborhood?
Love it! Please tell me the name of the fabric on the bedroom settee!
I lived in Jason and John's hyper saturated home from 1957 thru 1974 with my parents and sister. I have very fond memories of the home and neighborhood but I always thought the neighborhood was called Flatbush--where did Lefferts Gardens come from? Also, the street(Chester Court) was referred to as a "dead end" block. A cul de sac was something found in suburbia.
John and Jason have transformed the house to such a degree that I almost did not recognize it as the place I called home for 17 years. The time, effort, and creativity invested is obvious but I wonder if all that change was for the better. As interesting as the house has become, it no longer seems the place for a young family to call home.
Jlucas, I suppose it's a good thing no children are living there. A house has to suit it's owners and their lifestyle, which this one clearly does.
I love every single idea! LOVE it! The colors are happy, the kitchen is amazing, the fabrics are stunning, and the jewels on the wall... All fantastic! I want to move in!
How the hell did I miss this tour?!?
Green is my favorite color!
I registered just so I could say how much I love this style. Your house is beautiful. What I'd do [more of] with mine, if I had the money.
Be bold or grow mold indeed! I'll take colour, pattern, fabric, and all that over sterile, cold, lifeless minimalism any day.
ta,
This house is insane! It's so noisy and vibrant and fun! I could never live there, I like a home that's mellow and subdued and calming...but despite that, I'm getting ideas. I'm inspired by quite a few things here, most notably the ways you store and display your stuff. That tour was a blast to look through!
Looks like you two kids took a hit of acid and said "LET'S DECORATE' but you know what it is pretty damn great. As much as is going on in these rooms it all seems to jive. I think you did an amazing job.
I love, I love, I love the bathroom! well, I love it all, actually, but I can't stop returning to the bathroom pics! The whole house is marvelous, a bit tongue in cheek, and a bit BirdCage (in a Very Good way)!
how is this even possible?? I could never imagine or envision that these things would go together without causing a seizure and it is so wonderful and beautiful and fancy and cozy at the same time.
Do you ever buy something and have to return it or does it always work somewhere?
WOW !!
And to think I almost missed this tour!
I would travel all the way to Brooklyn to sleep in that guest room and I live in Vancouver Canada. What a fantastic, fun, beautiful house. Adore the green sweaters!
I love this. If I had to give this style a name, it would be "Modern Victorian," in the sense that the juxtaposition of many patterns and bold colors has the same confidence and coziness of original Victorian interiors — not to mention Victorian style's plush comfort, whimsy, and elegance. Congratulations, this is really inspirational.
This place is like a little girls dream play house...Love it!!!
