We recently revisited the work of Jason Lewis in the March '07 issue of Chicago magazine.
A small blurb on the local furniture designer in the Made in Chicago section on p. 70 points to Lewis, a Rockford native, as an apprentice to local Bauhaus guru Berthold Schwaiger. There's a lot to love, like the stunning low side chair, pictured here, which is made from white oak and ash ($950). Other favorites below:
Each of the designer's pieces (including seating, tables, and storage units) is built by hand in his Chicago studio, customized to order according to a client's needs and specifications.

Bent back dining chair (black walnut, $950)

Woven seat lounge chair (black walnut, $950)

Writing table (black walnut, $2250)

These are beautiful- both airy and substantial. Thanks for the link.
It was always my intention to take classes at Bauhaus- such beautiful work being done there - but they have suspended instruction in the wake of Shwaiger's passing. I would love to find another place offering furniture instruction for the artistically inclined.
