Favorite resource: In the 'hood? Gotta be Sprout - great home store. Out in the 'burbs? The Kane County Flea Market - you wouldn't believe all the crazy sh*t you can find on the cheap out there. Online? The American Poster Institute links to tons of brilliant artists.

Pitch: I put my passions on display. I love travelling and quality brew, so my kitchen has a giant japan-centric world map and shadowboxes displaying 600+ unique bottlecaps from beer I've had all over the globe. I admire the power of language, so my bathroom has an SAT vocab shower curtain, photos of literary idols, and a paint pen for visitors to graffiti with.

Pitch Cont'd: I love music, reading and my friends, so in my front room I built cd shelving into a window, filled three bookcases and hung on the wall a collection of b&w photographic "self-portraits" from those closest to me.

Your favorite element: The constantly rotating collection of screenprinted gig posters hanging in my hallway. I can support the bands I love, display a healthy variety of artistic styles via a unifying medium, and it's cheap enough that I switch out posters all the time. It's like a mini-gallery right in my apartment.

I love your supergraphic, and also love the description of your bathroom! I have a dry erase board in my bathroom for friends to decorate and think a paint pen would be stellar. Also love the SAT words curtain idea (wish I could see how it played out) and also the idea of changing posters for the bands/music you love.

Lots of cool elements, but the overall impression is too busy for my liking.

Perhaps some more closed storage would take away some of the clutter, allowing your uniquer finds to take center stage.

Your pitch sounds really cool but I don't see the elements you mention in the pictures. I wish you had posted pictures of the kitchen and bathroom with what you've done instead of the less exiting living room.

I *REALLY* need to know about the bird. Wow.

Such great things going on here with color and art... and the hummingbird is such a unique touch. Ultimately the apartment just needs some more interesting furnishings.

Your place has so much personality, but it's not overwhelming - you've accomplished something tough for a small space. All pictures seem very cohesive. Great work!

Knowing Jason, I can say with really high confidence that his apartment looks like his hair.

Bark! This place is great. Having been in it though, I'm surprised there was no mention of a Sega Genisis.... That would have put this apartment over the top!

i wanna thank everyone for the great comments - and the voting masses willing, i'll post photos of the other rooms/views in another round.

but for everyone digging the ginormous hummingbird, it was crazy easy to do. i bought a stencil from stencil1.com, rigged up a desk lamp to cast the stencil's shadow on the wall, and then traced it with pencil. with a $2 paint brush and a tiny can of normal house paint, you get that lovely avian addition to the studio.

Where is that bedding from?

Thanks for sharing the stenciling wisdom. Your shocking tangerine wall is electrifying! I want to come over and graffitti your walls.

believe it or not, that bedding is from target. the whole thing - duvet, set of sheets, and shams - cost me something like $60.

that bird scares the beejus outta me!
